Ok, gentlemen, the discussion is now open, topic; Why?
Because I don't over-value our own players and he is an aging player at a skill position who is wanting to get paid.
I love TMac...he is awesome. Would hate to lose him.

But...that deal would set us up for years to come. Two 1st round picks next year...wow

Peters would go nuts with that. Also, I watched the Patriots for years sell a player at their peak right as they were about to decline. I got sick of NE winning the SB and having a thousand picks in the draft. Lets try it for once.

I would have to pass. TM has played better than a typical first round pick and there are no alternatives in FA for next year that come close to replacing TM. The Steelers would be picking around 20 so the likelihood of a first round WR coming straight in are extremely remote. A successful first at 20 would likely not be close to TM until year 2. That would be pushing the peak window for JD back to 2027 and essentially the last year of his rookie contract.

We need to start playing for now…and the future. We need to stop wasting draft capital on aging players and start paying free agents that actually deserve the pay to come here or stay here.

This is probably the first time I'm stumped.
I think Terry is going the continue to play at a high level as this team's WR1, further if someone is brought in where he is no longer the focal point, i think he will be dominate for 3 years straight. Also as a fan it sends a message to me that once you reach a certain age...despite production, you have no job security in DC.
On the other hand, the front office has hardly any ties to the roster and HAS to do whats best for the team. It appears QB is set and now is the time to maximize.
I don't want to see this move made, but if it happened i wouldn't lose any love

Speaking on 106.7 The Fan, The MMQB’s Albert Breer said Terry McLaurin is likely seeking a contract extension averaging at least $30 million per year.
Breer said he thinks it is “fair” for McLaurin to ask for a deal that at least "[starts] with a three,” adding that “the real comp is probably DK Metcalf,” whose contract averages $33 million over four years. Breer also said that although things between McLaurin and the Commanders are not in a “great place right now,” he notes that contract negotiations “do get bumpy,” with the way “the market’s exploded over the last couple of years.” Drafting McLaurin at this time is not without risk but there is still plenty of time for the two sides to meet in the middle, assuming that middle begins with a “three.”

He's a WR1 here but not in the league, I've been posturing this position for a while now. That said, if you were Terry do you take that offer?

Yes, any football player getting that kind of money guaranteed should take the offer. He might get pissed with the offer. I dont know what he wants for a long term deal.

I'm pretty sure that the guaranteed money isn't an issue. The sticking point is going to be the length of the contract. They want security that's based on the belief that they are going to be the exceptional player who doesn't lose his edge as they get older.

This decision will be very interesting.

It will separate Peters from Rivera and Vinny.

Vinny would have given TMac a 10 year deal and Rivera would have done something stupid as well.

I knew that this group was serious about this franchise when they traded Jahan Dotson to the Eagles.
This is the deal that I would offer McLaurin, I don't believe he's going to take it because of the length of the contract, but how they deal with this will be crucial to team unity going forward.

Let's see what he does on the field in real football games. I am not going to get a hard on for a guy who has not played against NFL competition while at the same time I hope he is awesome.
