Not only governments but corporations anticipated this and were going to raise prices for the same reason.

As for easing it from a corporate perspective they have zero intention but governments, did a poor job anticipating, or they did a good job anticipating and wanted it for as you said. But at some point the earnings will stagnate since no one can afford to spend at the going rate, and then we can fully expect a global recession.

That's why we got rosy commercials touting Justin's ban of "assault-style firearms", which still isn't really saying much and still lets a lot get through.
