The Senate confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court on Thursday, shattering a historic barrier by securing her place as the first Black female justice.

Confirmed 53-47 with a resume that should have been a slam dunk. Nice of Romney, Collins, and Murkowski to do the right thing, but do they if the Republicans have a slim majority or were they showing their bravery when it didn't actually matter.

So has the game changed were a president can no longer get an judge appointed unless they have a senate majority? Just like the constitution was designed to work huh

More Republicans voted to confirm Sotomayor and Kagan than Democrats did Gorsuch, who was equally fine as a candidate as Jackson. John Kerry tried to filibuster Alito. John Roberts got out of the Judiciary Committee 13-5 and among the 5 voting against were two guys named Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer. The Democrats split 22-22 on the Senate vote on Roberts and that was considered historically narrow.

Everything got super ugly when the Republicans decided not to give Garland a hearing but it had been trending that way for some time.

I have actually seen people who seem to believe this.

Hindsight being 20/20, it would have been way better for Biden to say "Why are there no black women on the court?" instead of saying "I'M GONNA NOMINATE A BLACK WOMAN!". Outcome the same, but maybe slightly less drama.

Hindsight being 20/20, it would have been way better for Biden to say "Why are there no black women on the court?" instead of saying "I'M GONNA NOMINATE A BLACK WOMAN!". Outcome the same, but maybe slightly less drama.

It devalued her somewhat as a totally qualified candidate and threatened to wedge them into a corner in the same way they wound up stuck with Kamala Harris as VP.

It just didn't seem very necessary to come out with that; pick her and note afterward that her confirmation would be historic.
