Note the words "If they do anything illegal". Those words are simultaneously a dog whistle to his supporters to mean "anything I don't like" and a premeditated defense because the prosecutors will be careful to follow the law so nothing illegal will happen in the investigation and he can say "I only said to protest if they did something illegal. I am not responsible."

This blockade is fucking stupid but so was the Native blockade of the rail lines between Toronto and Montreal in protest of a gas line in northern BC and the police didn’t move in that time. Nor did they when Six Nations protestors basically annexed land in Caledonia slated for neighbourhood development and blocked Highway 6, something they did until the land owners eventually just gave up (although I assume the Ontario govt somehow compensated them).

This is why you enforce the god damn law.
