Lol doesn't matter....I know from experience.
I have been away from the community I grew up in for over 30 years and still get told - "You don't seem like your from there". And they mean it as a compliment I usually respond something non committal while suppressing "You want me to be the person you expect to be from there? I can do that" or "And you dont seem like a stuck up preppy rich kid who's parent's checkbook bailed them out of trouble time and time again like most of the people from where you're from".

BTW I am just goofing around. Besides I dont want to answer a knock at my door late one night and hear "have you been to the stampede?" as I take a punch to the head.

lol - That story happened very close to where I used to live in Calgary - It was a cop from Michigan (shocking right) who was asked that question as he was walking in a park. He thought the two guys asking him the question were going to assault him and he felt very uncomfortable as he wasn't wearing his trusty sidearm.

I was born in Kelowna and up to the mid 2000s I was pretty much half BC and half Alberta living. .. BC time is certainly the leader now

I get it too but not with the where I'm from but where i live. My home is served by a post office in a town that nobody really wants to be associated with. I live about 5 miles from that town but my mailing address uses that city because it's served by that post office if that makes sense.

So people assume I live in city XXXXXXX because that's what my mailing address is. I always correct them that no I live in YYYYYYYY

not sure how many full timers there are that now make perm. residence in Kelowna. Definitely an influx of Albertan intransigent transients in the summer months though. Im reminded of this gem

That makes sense. Weird rules with post offices. If you go by postal address I live in Nottingham (I assume with my friends Robin, Friar Tuck, and Little John) yet I've never heard anyone call any place near me by that.

And there are probably 2 post offices closer to me than the Nottingham branch.
