Has anyone taken a moment to try to figure out exactly what JG meant when he declared that, this is what Sunday's game is?
To me it appears that he's talking about a loss on Sunday and what it would mean for his players and himself during the bye weeks. What else could it be? A win buys more time, and a bit more breathing room to maintain the status quo. So let me ask you.........What do you think he meant by "Code Red?" and What happens if things go bad on Sunday?

It is a no win situation for him. If they lose -- and he comes back with Cousins he loses the fans and media. If they lose and he comes back with Griffin/McCoy he loses his job regardless of what happens the rest of the way.

The fact is: this team isn't good (yet) but is making progress. I just don't know if Gruden will be around to see the transition next year.

A win buys 2 weeks of quiet... and a loss? Well... you know how blood thirsty the fan base can get.

Lose this game and most likely the Bye week becomes a circus. A new QB would likely be forced onto Gruden, and my bet is that new QB wont be McCoy. Not to mention that being 2-4 and facing the Patriots on the other side of the bye on the road basically means its time to start talking about the draft.

IM not. At this point Im almost looking forward to it if we do in fact lose. I had hoped Gruden would be the coach to come in and finally fix this thing. But he has shown some tendencies that I find rather disturbing. He will abandon the run game like a stray dog on the side of the road if it isnt clicking well within the first 15 run plays. He has also shown a tendency to leave his QB out to dry by putting him in positions that are unmanagable.. and notice I simply said his QB. Because he did this with all three QBs at some point. IM also hoping that if we lose, he is forced to start Griffin, because the team and fan base need some kind of closure on this. And I seriously think that if we finish 4-12 and Griffin never takes a snap, we will have a new coach and the same Griffin DRAMA next year.

So to me its a win or go home situation with this game.

I guess that's fair. I don't tend to think firing a coach in mid season is a good idea and I just think it'll be more of a circus but I guess that's business as usual so what difference does it really make. As for QB I really don't care, I don't have much hope for any of them.

Gruden wont get fired mid season, unless he is told to start Griffin and he refuses. But if we lose to Tampa, Cousins will be benched irrespective of his performance. As much as a week seven game can be must win, this is a must win game for the coach and the QB.

Do you think it would be wrong to bench cousins?

The question is would it matter if they benched Cousins? Does bringing someone else in get you the same results in a different manner?

I think it would depend on WHY you are benching him. In light of his performance when viewed in a vacuum, no.

But if you look at the whole picture, the fact that the coach has basically put him in a position to lose more than to win. I think its questionable as far as the motives for benching him. I think we have over the past few weeks done exactly the opposite of what we should be doing as far as play calling and game plan, and Cousins is likely to take the fall for it.

If the plan were to bench him and install McCoy in an attempt to gauge the rest of the team, then Im fine with it. But I dont think that is what will happen if we lose this game. Thus I think it is wrong to bench Cousins. Despite his INT issues, he is the best QB we have on roster. He has the most QB potential of all the guys we have on roster. Note I said QB, not athlete. Do I think he will ever become the guy who throws for 45 TDs to 5 INTs a season?? Not likely. But I do think that over time he becomes the guy who throws 45 TDs to 25 INTs and leads his team to a winning record. I think its up to the coaches to manage the game in such a way as to not put him in so many situations where he is liable to throw the game losing INT. Which over the past two weeks Gruden has done a baby eats a box of Exlax shitty job of.

Depends on the results you expect. If you are benching Cousins because you expect more wins, I dont think it matters. If you are benching Cousins because you want to have less INTs, sure we could make the switch... but do we end up giving up twice as many sacks and a boat load of sack fumbles?? Do we also end up producing les points in the process?

Yes we are screwed no matter who we put in, but is it soft **** screwed, or Ron Jeremey on Viagra hard core screwed is the question??

Id like to point out I dont think 45 TDs and 25 INTS is really a realistic season for anybody let alone Cousins. Theres only 5 QBs in history to ever throw for 45 TDs and 25 INTs is a ton. Nitpicking your point yea but just thought Id point it out.

Im also not convinced he has the most potential either, but that having been said I dont think any of them will ever be more than backup level QBs.

As for benching Cousins I think it depends. Because ultimately it should be Gruden who decides who starts and his job is on the line. He needs to play the guy that gives him the best chance to win each individual game right now. That may well be McCoy. Of course you could say McCoy has the least chance of the 3 to be a long term answer and Id agree. If you want long term you should play one of the guys with a sliver of a hope to be something and one of them has a $16 million dollar risk that the other doesnt have and therefore you can make a case for Cousins. Or you COULD say that RG3 has the most physical talent and therefore the most potential and that you might as well swing for the fences. So point being, theyre all bad options and a case can be made for any and at this point I dont really care which one it is. I just want to move on from them all.

I think thats the real issue here. Physical talent does not equate to QB potential. Just because a guy could run a 4.4 40 does not mean he has QB potential. RG3 seriously LACKS mental talent for the position. NO Im not calling him dumb by any means. But he has failed in his ability to read defenses, make proper adjustments at the line or scan the field. All these things Kirk does, and does well alot of the time. As far as the QB to INT numbers, most of the considered GOOD QBs last year threw around 2 TDs for every INT. I think IF Kirk were throwing 2 to 1 ratio, the INT issue would not be as big a deal as it is.

And you are right I discount McCoy because he offers nothing short of a bandaid to our next great QB search.

Well he's not only more physically talented with his legs. He has a stronger arm and based especially on the last couple weeks Id say is a more accurate passer. So physically he is more talented which does have a lot to do with where a players ceiling is.

As for Kirk being mentally ahead I think thats a little overated. If Kirk did those things well he wouldnt be a horrible pocket passer. At best hes marginally better than RG3 as a pocket passer right now, which is...not good for somebody who relies on that being their strength.

IF Physical talent trumped actual QB ability, Mike Vick would have been a franchise QB. As far as accuracy goes, maybe you missed the part where once we stopped running an offense where guys were running wide open Griffins accuracy went into the shitter. Im calling like I see it, Griffin will never develop into more than an option QB because he lacks the fundamentals for the position as a more traditional QB. This isnt to say Kirk will ever get over his own issues. But it is to say that Griffins flaws will always make him a one trick pony.

I never said it did but to say Mike Vicks potential wasnt off the charts is silly. RG3 has more potential than Cousins IMO. I dont think either of them have much of the mental aspect of playing the position. They probably wont ever figure it out either, but lets say they both did RG3 being more physically talented would make him better, no?

I guess what youre saying is that you think Cousins has the mental ability to develop but RG3 doesnt, which is fine, but I dont see Cousins as being much sharper than RG3. I tend to think the very slim possibility they put it together mentally is there for both of them.

Again, you are equating potential with physical ability. The two are not the same, especially in the QB position. The best QBs in the game right now can read defenses, adjust protections at the line, know when to change plays, and dont have a tendency to hang onto the ball because they feel their physical ability can bail them out of any play.

I am also saying that while Cousins has not nailed it down from a mental aspect yet, he is a whole hell of alot closer than we have ever seen from Griffin. And the main reason I DONT think Griffin will ever get it is because he is too stubborn to actually change. He has shown that time and again. I think Griffin being more physically gifted in some areas actually hurts him in this aspect because he always feels he can rely on his legs to get him out of a jam. So no I dont think he will ever "get it" because he has shown repeatedly that he doesnt think he need to adjust. We drafted a more exciting version of Mike Vick, and as much as people will say Cousins will never become a good QB.. .Griffin will never become more than an option QB.
