Yes. He got the A-Team due to his huge popularity from Rocky.

The story goes...in 1980 Mr. T was in an Americas Toughest Bouncer competition on NBC. Stallone saw him in the competition and wanted to cast him in a bit roll. Once T was on the set for a while, Stallone decided he had to be Clubber Lang.

Interesting, I never put that much thought into as a kid watching Rocky. Just assumed as a kid he was a actor.
