Playing hockey in the living room now, he always says "Daddy, you be the Hurricanes and I'll be the Flyers".

I told him there was a hockey game on TV last night, I said, "The Hurricanes are playing"... His response "And the Flyers?!?!??"


Brother in law (and friggin Sabres fan) over the house this weekend... asks his favorite team. "The Flyers".





I know most people who "know" me here will think I am making this all up to pander to the Flyers Rep-Bot or something (obviously THAT isn't working ).
But I swear to the Lord Jesus Giroux that not a word of this is made up and every bit is true.

And I STILL have no idea how it started or where it came from. None of his little friends are from a Flyers family, so he didn't pick it up at school.
None of my friends that he would have contact with are Flyers fans.
I DO have a Philly Forsberg jersey I told him he could have some day, but that's about it.

I think the boy just saw them play against the 'Canes and liked the "Orange team".

I don't get it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, Biz. He's still a youngin' and they have no loyalties or attention span at that age. When I was a tike, I briefly liked the Los Angeles Lakers (because I liked Kareem), the Houston Oilers (thought their helmet was cool), and the Miami Hurricanes (had a shirt of them somehow).

By a couple years later, I was rooting for all the local teams and the teams my dad cheered for. A Baltiimore/Washington fan - we had a nice run in the 70s/80s, and man has it been a giant pile of shit since.

So don't worry - I'm sure your boy will be cheering on Carolina sports' teams before long... and resenting you for that shortly thereafter.

I did not think much of it until the interview and the end of the 1st. When he said the boards were solid during the morning skate so that he may try a pass to himself. Some would ever even try it let alone have it work. And he is only 7th in allstar voting. Go figure.

All-star voting in any sport basically has a lag of a year or two. Not to mention there is a lot of ballot stuffing in the NHL's version. Nobody who knows hockey would think Giroux anything but a first pick in this year's All-Star Game.

Speaking of which, are they picking teams again? Maybe Kessel will get to laugh at OV this year.

As for the goal, it was cool, but I don't think passing off the boards is all that novel (if he had scored on a one-timer off his own pass, that might be something), and the real star of the goal was that soft, juicy rebound.

Well if he is anything like me as a kid, he just wants to be different. I'm not proud, but in like 2nd through 5th grade I was a fan of the following teams: Dallas Cowboys, Florida Panthers, Florida Marlins, Orlando Magic. Only one team (Magic) have stuck with me until this point. The rest I eventually gravitated towards the light.

Sadly, I dont see it lasting forever.

Or maybe the Flyers will be HIS "Orlando Magic"....
