“I thought it was awesome,” Toews said. “Every game, I think it’s cool to have (military) veterans and people who have served. For us to have a chance to meet those people, it’s pretty awesome. But a firsthand experience like this is awesome. It was pretty amazing to see how excited they were.”

So if you had to sum it up with one word Jonathan, what would it be?

So... a family, whose husband did his job, was honoured by the Hawks. That's AWESOME.

No different than honouring the family of a doctor, or a fireman, or a beat cop.

Good on the Hawks for respecting this man (who deserves it) and his family, but this should not be news.

I hate the Hawks and I hate the war, but this is news. Going off the war is so completely different than working as a cop, a fireman, or a doctor. You leave for a year at a time, and your family has no idea if you will return or not. Soldiers get paid like shit compared to what they do, and the divorce and suicide rate for these guys is through the roof.

I bet in the unedited version he drops a couple f-bombs in there.

Has anybody here served in the miltary as a young adult right out of high school and didn't get a chance to see his/her family for months or even years at a time?

I have.

And you are right, this isn't just news. It's GREAT NEWS!!!
