The hiring of Tobin as director of scouting has paid off HUGE. I have very little doubt that when Brown finally steps down, Katie and her Husband will likely hire him as GM (or maybe Marvin if he steps away from coaching)It's interesting.... I think the one thing that changed the fortunes for the Bengals was the last collective bargaining agreement. The league now favors drafting and developing young players (so much cheaper) and maintaining continuity with a coaching staff because young players are in key positions. The cynic would say that the Bengals just got lucky - They are happy to pay bottom dollar for young players (as dictated by the CBA) and they are loyal to coaches even when the coaches aren't currently succeeding.
Regardless of how it happened, the formula has worked..... Lots of good young talent a defensive system that really hasn't changed at all in 5 or 6 years and an offense that has been similar for a long period of time.
Bengals are average for cap space these days. they have less than Green Bay, so I guess we can't really bitch about it the way we used to. but if someone tells you they don't have any cap room left, they are lying.

Maybe, but the argument has always been that they don't spend. They are 7th over the last 4 years. So, regardless of how much space they have, they are spending money. They are just spending it wisely, and with less dead-cap space as Crash mentioned, than most teams, that frees up more space. But to say they are not spending is ignorant. Also, just because you have space doesn't mean you rush out to spend it. They've done it the right way for the past, what, 5 years. It seems they actually know what they are doing now.
