Well, will he resign with the Sens or will he be traded? At this point nobody really knows. My gut is telling me that he is going to re-sign but I can't guarantee that.

Bobby Mac is saying it should be resolved within the next day.

Did the Sens really offer Phillips less than he's making now?

It sounds like it. Sounded like it was around 3 million for around 2 or 3 years.

It's really all about whether Phillips is willing to take a discount or not. If he goes then you can thank the likes of Sergei Gonchar and Filip Kuba although those 2 signings are definitely mistakes that Bryan Murray made.

Would Sens fans want him to stay or waive his NTC & accept a trade?

I think the majority want him to stay but I don't think they'd be all that upset if he was dealt for a good return either.

Me personally...I want him to stay and mentor the young defensemen we've got coming up. Hopefully Gonchar and Kuba are dealt with though.

The Sens fan side of me wants him to stay in Ottawa, be named Captain and have everyone get of his God Damned back already.

The Jackets fan side of me thinks he needs to be reunited with Antoine Vermette.

We'll have to see if that was Phillips' last goal as a Senator tonight. Hopefully it wasn't...

I'd love him in a Pens sweater. But he'd only be a rental, and I'm not sure we have quite enough cap space to support him if Sid were to return before the playoffs.

Sounds like the 2 sides have gotten closer to a number they can agree on but it looks like this is going to go right down to the wire.

It looks like Murray made a very good trade sending Mr. Underwood to Nashville. That 1st round pick could be in the lottery.

I guess Philipps has to make a tough decision. Stay for less or accept a trade, then hit free agency. Either way the Senators win to be honest. If he signs they get him at their price. If he says no they get something for him in a trade.

I don't think Nashville will slide that much but I think it will be in the 13-20 range.

That's true on Phillips btw. Ottawa is pretty much guaranteed of not losing him for nothing.

Is Orpik on LTIR? If he is then that would provide some cap relief and maybe enough to pick up Phillips.

This is true. It's true because Phillips is a stand-up character guy. I'm betting that as soon as this is resolved we see him play a lot better. I think the fact that this is his contract year, and that the team has been brutal, has bothered him this year.

I'd like to see him get a shot with a contender and then re-sign in the summer. He always plays his best hockey in the playoffs, so I think he'd be rejuvenated by being a pure rental.

What constitutes LTIR? I know he's out 4-6 weeks. But obviously they wouldn't put him on right away depending on how long that means...is it 10+ games? Can't remember. Regardless I think we could take on his salary, but it just depends on what Shero is willing to move. That and he's sort of made it seem like he's shopping for another forward more than a depth D. Our D is pretty solid when healthy:
Martin-Michalek
Orpik-Letang
Niskanen-Engelland
Lovejoy
With the Martin and Orpik injuries it's been a bit touch and go, but they're still playing pretty solid D. But, adding Phillips to that mix makes this the best D corp (when healthy) in the league. That's just my opinion though.
