I've always liked him. He plays a good OF, hes quick, and he had a helluva rookie year. i find it hard to believe hes just lost it the way he has.

he was non tendered by the Marlins. Would you look in to him?

Pros:

Low risk/high reward potential
Good LF, speedy, high potential average
Career .337 obp though he hasnt touched his rookie year in obp.
Under club control until 2017(provided being nontendered doesnt change arb rules)


Cons:

Lefty/throws off platoon with Blanco plan
Hasnt been able to recapture his 2009 magic
No power



Not the best option, but it doesnt seem to be a lot better.

Axford will still cost some coin, so I am not sure he will be a value-add. He was non-tendered for monetary reasons, not ability reasons.

Axford instead of Dunning would make that an AWESOME bully.

I like the way that looks, but I wonder if he wont get a better bully position with another team. With us, he would be competing with KCya for the primary ROOGY. I suspect he can get a full setup position (AT LEAST) from another team.

He made 5M last year, and on the open market, you gotta assume he will demand at least 5.5M, if not closer to 6.5M.

You're probably right, the cost wouldn't make sense, especially on a multiyear deal. We've got a number of relievers expected to be ready by 2015

chris coghlan appears to have an option year left, so this appears to be a money move. The Giants could claim him and move him to the minors (but would still be forced to pay his arb salary in the minors).
