He denied it later, you will recall, but reports say it was actually true:

Per Schrager, the Eagles offered the Titans their 2015 first- and second-round picks, their 2016 first-round pick, any quarterback on their roster and any defensive player on their roster in exchange for the No. 2 overall pick. (H/t to Philly Sports Network for finding the interview.) And the way Schrager stated it was not "any one defensive player," it was "anyone" on defense, which could have even meant multiple pieces.

That is utterly insane. Not that the Titans would have necessarily selected the players the Eagles took with those two picks last year, but that trade offer could have meant Sam Bradford, Fletcher Cox, Nelson Agholor, Eric Rowe and this year's first-rounder for Mariota.

Chip Kelly's reported trade offer for Marcus Mariota utterly insane

Sounds about right for what we were hearing last year. If it's true crazy that the Titans passed it up. The only player that gives me pause would be Cox. But at least we would have our franchise QB. More than likely Chip would still be coaching the team as well.

Just proves how totally inept Chip was and is. If I was the Titans that would have been hard to pass up.

Proves more how inept the Titans are

If that truly was the deal on the table if you are the Titans you take that deal and don't look back
You take all the phones off the hook and run gleefully to the "bank"

If the report is true the Titans suck as a franchise

Andy Reid advised them not to do it.

Yes he did. You have to get your franchise QB. Tennessee did the right thing. Cox was the only sure thing in the proposal.

So Mariotta was? You make that trade if your Titans, none of the picks might not pan out but you know you are getting at least an All Pro in Cox and a whole lotta picks to gamble with.

Some trades don't make sense for either team, and this godfather offer for Mariota is one of them. Tennessee couldn't pass up a chance to get a real franchise QB at the top of the draft. They don't come around every draft (take this draft for example), and the Eagles couldn't really justify gutting their current roster and future draft assets for a potential franchise QB.

To make an exaggerated example as a point, would you trade Cox and the next 5 first rounders for Luck? The Eagles couldn't, nor could the Colts. Both teams would be worse off.

While he was screwing us through the back door on Maclin. Has to make you wonder why Lurie went back on his knees to take Reid's protégé as his next HC.

There is no such thing as a sure thing, Peyton Manning was the closest, and Mariotta is not Peyton Manning?

Yeah, if this trade went down I would have blown a gasket for sure. As it is, I want Chip to rot on Alcatraz. We can all thank the Titans for not doing this deal. We would have been screwed for a very long time. Mariota was banged up already his rookie year, no? Cox alone, I would not do this deal.

That potentially would have been a franchise building trade.

Kind of like the RG3 trade built your franchise. You got some good players but what did it really do for you?

When you have bad offensive talent evaluators to go with an overrated coach, guy is a losing coach this is the result.

We have some good players, we are also still the youngest team in the NFL.

Yeah, that is why you take the shot at the franchise QB.

If you trade out of a spot where you can take a franchise QB, you better have a plan to acquire a franchise passer with that bounty of picks, otherwise you are no better off.

The Rams would be lambasted for that trade today if RG3 had panned out, and even considering he busted, the Redskins are still in a more favorable position than the Rams today despite the deficit of picks they had to overcome (and the fact that the Rams have had a higher than average success rate in the draft the last few years).

Did you know the Rams have more wins than the Redskins since the trade and that is with the Rams playing in a much better division?

The Rams have good players, just need a new coach.

The Redskins have won two division titles in the four years since that trade went down. They've got a much better situation at QB and may have a franchise signal-caller they haven't had for years. Most importantly, however, they've got Scot McCloughan, one of the best, if not the best, GMs in the game putting together a roster built primarily through the draft for the long haul.
