I'd bet it's less fear of rejection and more Chip isn't/wasn't the type they're after. It's not typically a major spectacle when a coach doesn't take a school's offer, and they do a lot of offense the record work before making offers to avoid rejection anyway. All I've ever heard about Petersen is it was a mutual thing. Who knows what the real reason is/was, if neither party talks about it there's nothing to who turned down who. Chip isn't (or doesnt seem like) the type to go blabbing to the media about an offer/interview.
