Jared Gaither - T - Chiefs

Chiefs signed OT Jared Gaither, formerly of the Ravens.
Gaither apparently couldn't pass a physical after agreeing to terms with the Raiders two weeks ago. The Chiefs are either more confident in Gaither's health, or simply want to roll the dice on a guy that has immense talent at the crucial left tackle position. Gaither didn't play a snap last season due to back issues.

That guy's got the goods physically if he can stay healthy. His motivation is the thing that has kept him from becoming a great player. Hearing that Boone has stepped up a lot is great. If we didn't have that in place I wouldn't hesitate to get someone like him behind Davis. This is a big year for Davis.

agree on Davis and yeah, always good to read about good depth getting better and better (Boone).

this is a big "off season" for Rachal, he doesn't have the versitility like Snyder so if he doesn't retain his starting spot.................

Snyder plays many positions, but isn't good at any of them. Rachal plays one position, but has shown flashes of brilliance at least. Snyder has only shown flashes of mediocrity.

I have the same sense of Snyder as well; we all know the saying: "Jack of all trades..." I like having utility lineman as back-ups but I would like to have specialists starting; I know, in a developing environment that is not always possible.

Rachal, has become effective against the run, which is great, but not good enough. Against the pass, (as of last year) he was still getting jocked on stunts and man handled on bulls. My hope is that his new trimmer self will be quicker and allow him to get a little lower in his stance.

I tell ya though, I am lovin that we are going against New Orleans for our first test, and I hope Williams throws everything at us including his mother-in-law. Few front seven's challenge an O'Line more than Williams' blitzing schemes.

Another Tony Wragge clone would be fine by me. When he is inserted into the lineup, the offense doesn't miss a beat. When Snyder is inserted, you can expect a penalty or a sack within 5-10 plays.

Good point on Chilo's loss of weight. Vernon Davis was tweeting about Braylon Edwards looking just like him- but I don't think he's lost quite THAT much weight yet. His pass blocking technique and awareness both certainly need improvement.

Williams' scheme will be a nice test tomorrow night. I'm sure Goodwin can give the guys up front a few pointers, but I'm sure Williams will throw a new wrinkles out there just for the hell of it.

Yeah, I saw that Ray started a game thread and read the 'five things to watch' column, and I must admit I was a little surprised that the o'line wasn't mentioned; considering, of course, our o'line and who we are facing.

Wragge is on my okay list as well. You know you have a decent back up when they enter the game and you don't hear about for a couple quarters or until the end of the game.

Yes it is too bad about Gaither having injury problems I would have liked the 49ers to take an interest in the guy. The Chiefs have had problems along their line with several high draft picks, like the 49ers the last couple of years. I would like to see the starters develop as well as some depth on the offensive line. Some long drives and a few blowouts would do wonders for the starters and reserves as well! Go 49ers!!

The Niners keep moving Snyder around like he's Derrick freaking Deese when he doesn't have the talent to do so. Frustrating. Any word on why Goodwin wasn't playing?
