I would have loved to have seen what Champ could have done if he ever had the pass rush in front of him like the Broncos have had the past 2 years. Not sure a team would have completed a pass against him. To me people still underestimate Champ and what he brought to the Broncos. Played on some pretty mediocre teams yet still shut down people left and right. I think that 2006 season they figured out he had more interceptions than completions allowed to his side.

Not to mention he led team in tackles more than once I believe. Goes to show you what he had in front of him those years and still was able to be shutdown corner .

2006, when the Broncos benched Plummer in favor of Cutler I believe is one of those "lost seasons." I think Plummer could have gone 3-2* down the stretch instead of Cutler's 2-3. That would have been the difference between 9-7 and 10-6 and making the playoffs.

Of course there is no way of knowing how that would have turned out. The playoffs that year were:

Chargers: 14-2
Ravens: 13-3
Colts: 12-4
Patriots: 12-4
Jets: 10-6
Chiefs: 9-7

Had the Broncos won the season finale with the 49ers they would have gone in as the 5th seed with the Jets sliding to the 6th and the Chiefs in their rightful place: out of the playoffs. I am always careful about this type of speculation because you simply can't prove something that never happened. However, given the Broncos success over the Patriots, including Plummer's 3-0 record against them as the Broncos starter, it's not unreasonable to believe they could have gone into Foxboro and knocked off the Pats. The Broncos played the Chargers tight in Denver but got blasted in San Diego (a game Cutler started). I wonder how different that game would have been with Plummer and how a third matchup in the playoffs would have looked. Assuming the Chargers still win that second regular season game and earn the sweep, it's tough to beat a team 3 times in one season.

All this speculation...

Seeing all of Champs picks sort of bring it all back...

*I believe Plummer would have taken them on a 4-1 run, beating the Seahawks, Cardinals, Bengals and 49ers but losing the showdown with the Chargers. Can't be proven, of course, but it's almost inevitable to ponder what might have been.

One love to one of the best all around cornerbacks to ever play the game.
