Championships in BOLD

8 of the 17 games have been decided by 20+ and only 6 have been decided by single digits. Some have suggested that 4 teams is more than enough because LSU beat the shit out of OU. It's not even the biggest blowout in the short history of the CFP....or the second largest. What's worse...? Giving up 63 points or getting shutout? That's happened twice. As far as I'm concerned a blowout loss is a blowout loss. It still doesn't discourage me from wanting 8 playoff teams. Yes, many of the games have been less than competitive, but so has the Super Bowl at times. Does anyone remember when the NFC won 13 straight (1985-97)....by an average of almost 21? Yet, we still got excited about the Super Bowl every year....and still do.

I think it shows the BCS was all we needed most years.

a hybrid model like the heisman voting would be most efficient, but a logistics nightmare

I'm not a BCS ranking expert by any means. But wouldn't Clemson have been left out had the BCS system been in place this year?

In the future I would appreciate not reminding us about the last CFP Final.

Thank you in advance.

I believe so. But like I said, most years. Not every year. But rarely are there 4 worthy teams based on resume at the time of selection.

how many times have we had 4 undefeated teams?

I have no idea. But we had three this year and one would have been left out in the BCS system.

I don't think it would be right to have left them out...even if it means bringing a 4th team in that wasn't too good. They got whipped and eliminated. No problem. JMO.

We've had 5 undefeated teams twice in the BCS era.

Sooo.... , blowouts happen way too often when just a couple of the best teams are involved, so we need to add more teams for even more and bigger blowouts is your answer?

Strange thread indeed.

So blowouts in a four team playoff would mean less parity in college football with an expanded playoff? We have had playoff teams that lost to .500 or worse teams but because there is a dominate team or two, expanding the playoffs would lead the top two teams being more dominate?

Ehh, sure, if you consider a Big East without Miami or VA Tech 'major'....anyway, how did that work out for Cincinnati?

I always thought the BCS would have worked if it were used to create a playoff. Instead it was only utilized to get the top-2 teams. Had it been used for an 8-team playoff (1998-2013)...

1998

(1)Tennessee (13-0) vs (8)Wisconsin (10-1)
(4)Ohio St (10-1) vs (5)Texas A&M (11-2)

(2)Florida St (11-1) vs (7)Arizona (11-1)
(3)Kansas St (11-1) vs (6)UCLA (10-1)

1999
(1)Florida St (11-0) vs (8)Michigan (9-2)
(4)Alabama (10-2) vs (5)Kansas St (10-1)

How I think Oregon performs in those games
2009: Oregon gets rocked
2010: I like Oregon's chances to reach the finals
2011: 50/50 matchup with OkSt
2012: Would have been a tremendous game

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow led the Gators to a 30-3 halftime lead and a 51-24 victory.[6] Florida's offense set several Sugar Bowl records in the contest that still stand as of the 2018 edition. The Gators' 659 total yards were the most in Sugar Bowl history, and Tim Tebow set Sugar Bowl and Bowl Championship Series records with 482 passing yards and 533 total yards.[7] Tebow's 320 first half passing yards also set a Sugar Bowl record, as did his 12 consecutive completions to start the game.

Yeah, I guess you could say that.

Title games have been fairly competitive. I think semi finals have only had 3 competitive games

Playoff expansion ( in any sport ) isnt about making the playoff more competitive. Its about keeping more fans engaged and money.

I like the cfp. If we still had the BCS, Clemson would have been out and obviously they were better than Ohio state
