WoW!...they let one get away from them!...

How many drops can one team have in a game!?!?.........Dana said he was hoping a third guy could step up in receiving...he wasn't lying!!...good grief!!!

Lot's of positives from the game though....

1. Trickett looked like a different player...if his receivers catch the ball he throws for a minimum of 450 yards and 3 TDs...

2. Though the yards didn't show it, I think this team is able to run wild against Big12 opponents..Shell is going to be a star...he is going to be what Jason Gwaltney was hyped to be...Just hope they don't try and spread carries around..IMHO you keep feeding this kid and he is going to just hammer the defenses..

3. Offensive line played stellar against an outstanding front 7 in Alabama..

4. Play calling was spot on...surprised they didn't run some more screens , but I'm being critical...kind of interesting though there were very few bubble screens, the offense was in full attack mode...I liked it!:10:

Defense:

1. The 3-3 looked as though it hadn't skipped a beat from the Casteel days...You have to give Gibson props he had that group ready...but as I told BBW during the game one of the fatal flaws in that defense is that it seems pretty easy to set the edge against it..you have to bring numbers to stop the run which could lead to getting set up for the home run ball...but they looked fast and played aggressive... one glaring issue..no push from the 3 man line...they have got to get to the QB...Blake had all day at times or could move the pocket at will...#8 has got to love this defense he gets to come forward and also line up close to the line of scrimmage at times...suits his strengths to a tee!

Special Teams..

Outside of the Kick off return...it had mixed results...still an area that just can't seem to click on all cylinders..

Coaching..

Awesome day for the entire group....they put the kids in a position to win....all they had to do was CATCH THE DAMN BALL!!!!!!!!!:gaah:

I don't think the Bama QB would start for prob 8/10 of the Big12 programs if not all 10. We had better find a pass rush in the next few weeks or our second level people will look terrible once again. I'm worried about it.

Kind of hard to say about Blake..he seems to be more of a read option type of QB than a pro set guy which is what they run at Bama...Bama's O line is about as big and physical was Wv will see this year...I think they will play better but they don't have that that Brama Bull to play the NT...I guess we will see..

He may not but their oline would start for just about everyone...I was frustrated when we did get pressure and did not capitalize...they seem to rush him out of control and he did not need to make much effort to avoid the rush. I think it will get better and I think we will see more of the pash rush specialist in the future.

Dana addressed the pass rush issues today at his presser. There were quite a few opportunities for one of our blitzers to make a play, but they didn't finish. I think he mentioned something about pulling the trigger.

Sims was pretty athletic, and he stepped out of the way of some of the sack attempts. Not every QB WVU will face in the future will be as athletic. But, most of our pressure came from the left side... or Sims' right. He could see the pressure coming and react.

I hope it does get better up front on defense and having said that, once again, bravo coaches and AD for getting Tom Bradley here to coach em up now from game 1 to game 2 where most agree that teams improve the most and weekly from here on out. It MIGHT pay huge dividends by seasons end. Can't wait to see how we respond Saturday.... At night no less.

I am sure you mean Gibson..BBW and I were chatting about this... I don't think for a minute Bradley is running the show...he has never coached a 3-3 defense...

I think it would be a mistake to think that Gibson doesn't have the keys to the car....he knows the 3-3 inside and out...Bradley is doing what Bradley should do.... coach up the kids he is responsible for , offer his suggestions to improve and help game plan as any other assistant would do....

I was talking DLine but I do think Bradley has heavy input, IMO Gibby would be stupid NOT to draw from TB's experience when he is a first time DC at this level. At the end of the day yes it's Gibbys call on things but Scrap is the associate HC for a reason IMO.

I agree 100%.....It's interesting though...just wonder how much input he gets to exercise for all facets of the team......

Good assessment Slaton. I was especially disappointed in Gibsons drop and some of Thompson's drops. I fell that Thompson is more dangerous once he gets the ball but Shorts actually makes the catch.

Cudos for Thompson on his one great catch in the 2nd half though.
