He was a mistake, but I do like the way the Seahawks aren't afraid to admit it by cutting dead weight, pronto.
agreed. now we have to figure out what to do with Jimmy Graham. I'm not so sure that he justifies the contract that we gave him but not sure what our options are with him on the IR

Can't argue with the decision. Shead has played better in his place and hasn't Williams been inactive the last few games?

The last 2, yeah, so if you're looking at just inactivating him every week, or cutting him, then there really isn't a reason to keep him around. It's just a little earlier than I expected, as I didn't see him being around next year anyway.

Don't think the Seahawks are ready to give up on Graham.

I was concerned when we signed him and he has proven NOTHING but to concern me more.

So glad he was chopped

Why would we cut him? Because Jimmy Graham wasn't that big of an offensive threat because offensive line was atrocious?

Cut him solely because of his atrocious cap hit. We did great with Willson in there at a fraction of the cost. Plus we now have a TE that can effectively block.

Plus, isn't his injury fairly serious?

It was a gamble but I wouldn't call it a waste of money. He had a 3 year/$18 million contract where only $7 mil was guaranteed. I see this as a saving $5.5 million off the cap for the next two seasons with no dead money.

IF they need to cut him for financial reasons then they should cut him. But we are in pretty good shape for next year.

This was inevitable after they made him a healthy scratch for the second week in a row yesterday. It's one thing to bench a player, but to not even have him suit up for two consecutive weeks tells me that there had to be more there than him just not being very good. I think that if Lane had been available to them sooner, they would have benched him sooner than they did.

As for Graham... Carroll wants him here and so does Wilson. He's not going anywhere.

The way I look at it, signing Cary Williams at least indirectly led to the emergence of Shead. It promoted more competition at the position, and that brings out the best in most players. Without Cary Williams, maybe Shead is in there from week 1 and not ready for the role, and we give up on him prematurely.

Cary just didn't have it... I think Pete liked his size and thought maybe he could coach him into fitting in, but it's clear he's just not all that ... Had ok moments but got torched way too much.. It seemed like he was always a step behind...
