NDSU VS Jacksonville State Today in Frisco at 11:00

"Over the course of his career at NDSU, Wentz has thrown for 4,918 yards and 44 touchdowns, as well as 949 rushing yards and 41 rushing scores.

North Dakota State will play for its fifth straight FCS title Saturday morning at 11 a.m. against Jacksonville State, who will be playing for its first ever Division I football championship."

Wentz has been out since October with a broken wrist but has been cleared to play in the Championship game. He may be a bit rusty but this kid has all the tools to play in the NFL.

NDSU will be playing for their 5th straight Championship !!! which should tell you all you need to know about coming from a winning environment.

Some of you might be wondering why I like the kid well I have been watching him for 3 years at NDSU. Since NDSU came in and smacked the snot out of K-State back in Aug 2013 I started watching them on ESPN broadcast where they are a Saturday staple. The team might play at the FCS level but they could do just fine at the FBS level and be competitive. IMHO

Grab a cold drink and check out the game and draw your own conclusions

Wentz is definitely on my radar. I would be just fine with Dallas spending their 2nd on him.

Scouting Report

Strengths Weaknesses
STRENGTHS: Looks the part with a tall, workable frame. Good arm strength to deliver downfield with required velocity. Tight release, especially for a player with his long arms. Shifts his weight well in the pocket to work through the noise and keep his hand on the trigger, maneuvering under duress with improved footwork.

Functional athleticism and coordination in the pocket and as a scrambler, avoiding rushers and extending plays. Has a pre-snap plan and moves efficiently from target-to-target, making sound decisions. Shows the ability to recognize defensive coverages and change the play at the line ? reliable field vision pre and post snap.
Very smart on and off the field with excellent retention and execution skills. Physically and mentally tough with professional poise and work habits. Great teammate and was an extra coach on the sideline while injured. Set school single season records for completions (228) and passing yards (3,111) as a junior. Consistent winner with a 19-3 career record as a starter.
WEAKNESSES: Locks onto reads and needs to develop his eye use, staring down targets and leading defenders. Needs to improve his passing anticipation and feel for timing routes. Downfield accuracy is inconsistent, often leading receivers too far.
Bad habit of pre-determining throws and forcing the ball into tight coverage. Needs to understand when the play is over and throw the ball away (10 fumbles the last two years). On the move too much, even with a clean pocket, and will attempt throws without setting his base or coming to balance.
Lacks ideal starting experience for the position with questions about level of competition ? 21 of 22 career starts came against FCS competition (one FBS opponent was at Iowa State: 18-for-28 for 204 yards, no touchdowns). Missed second half of 2015 season due to a broken right wrist, requiring surgery (Oct. 2015).
IN OUR VIEW: Although his internal clock needs maturing, Wentz performs well within structure, but can also improvise when the play breaks down, stretching out his legs to pick up chunk yardage if it?s there (949 career rushing yards). He possesses a NFL-style skill-set with his size, athleticism and arm talent, including the field vision to work through reads and make sound decisions. Wentz ideally needs a redshirt rookie season in the NFL, but will be the top senior quarterback on several NFL draft boards.

OK, I want Wentz to fuck up a little to drop his stock some. So far he's onlya king it harder for a chance of making it to the 2nd round.

Trade will be needed for Wentz, either trade back into the 20/25 range or trade up. Either that or spend the 4th on him. If the staff thinks he's the future after the senior bowl I'm OK with the 4th pick. He's got the size and, strength to be an true NFL Starter.

That's the beauty of this years Senior bowl being coached by the Cowboys staff they get a up close and extended look at wentz and others that could be an advantage in the draft

using the 4th on Wentz would piss off a bunch but I would b ok with it

I won't be happy using the 4th on him, but will trust the staff if so.

Mayock is saying he's in the conversation to be the 1st QB taken.

I would take him over lynch but I think Goff is the best of the 3 right now

We will C

1 int was his the other was a bounce off the receiver who should have caught the ball and they wont make him slide to the 2nd round IMHO

Okay....Froze my ass and went to the car early 4th QTR but here goes...just an opinion

I'd love to have this guy in the right draft position. He has the measurable with a nice easy release and good foot work. I think Wentz like all the QB's in this class need two years. I wouldn't draft QB in the first two rounds. Just my not so humble opinion. I could be all wrong about this and it's early in the process... but I just don't see making a top 50 pick on a QB that needs two seasons learning for this team. Not the Dallas Cowboys I don't.
I draft two guys first that I know barring unforeseen injury will be contributors if not starters for 16 weeks.

I understand what you're saying, but if we keep playing the NO QB draft game we will continue to be two years down the road. If we can find a 2017/18 QB in this draft, the team will still be ready to win, I don't think we can keep kicking the can down the road.

good QB prospects in round three...early 3rd round is a good spot for a QB that needs two years.

It will be interesting after the draft on how many QB's go first round and then in the second round.

I will understand if they gamble in the first and don't take a QB, but it will get interesting in the 2nd if a possible 1st rounder is there in round two. Gamble too many rounds and were reaching in round 4. JMHO.
