Surprising how much we had begun to count on him.

its a big loss. he was our best blocking TE. We need a blocking TE. I don't think Hamm is it. I think McCoy went back to Seattle.

Scot is going to have to find us a TE. He has been great with picking up people off the street (Blackmon). We'll see what he does with the roster spot.

I get it, they had nothing at TE after the first 2 injuries and had to make a move. But you'll never convince me that Carrier gave us anything more than "just a guy" play this year. I hated seeing a someone with SM's draft record being forced to give up a 5th for a body.

Carrier is nothing special, but atleast hE knew the playbook. We are going to have to pull some guy off the street who will be of little help as he wont have a clue about the scheme. Jordan, time for you to show us all you can block, too.

I have no idea why it's so hard to find a blocking tight end. I understand college is not cranking them out like they used to but still.

That's the main reason. So I read this AM that they arent going to sign a TE, but use Compton more. I would suggest they design one or two plays that actually has compton going out for a pass, just to keep the defense honest. Nothing screams run play as much as seeing Compton lined up at TE. Our running attack is already suspect. No reason to telegraph further what we are going to run.

There was a lot of talk about that after Dallas. The lineup gave away the play call. Well that and runs on 15 of 20 first and tens.

Seriously, who cares about a blocking TE? Put in an extra OL that is athletic. I mean JJ Watt catches TDs.

As much as I love Cooley, you can't sign him. That would be like throwing a grenade in the locker room and locking all the doors. His film breakdown I'm sure has rubbed a lot of players the wrong way. The team has holes and TE is certainly one of them but the team appears to be united.

There is no TE out there that has watched more film on this team and could catch the ball, but that is a huge gamble that could really wreck that locker room. Something we can't afford right now.

I know he could make the catches Carrier made and I trust him more than Hamm, but you can't do it. Can he block at this point and can he stay healthy? He was having injury issues before he left.

As a fan I would love to see it, but from Scot's shoes, I can see why he has passed to this point.

jy and I debated this last week. Carrier is a huge loss to this team. He was our best blocking TE and can catch. It didn't make it obvious that we were going to run when he was in the game. I don't trust Hamm at all. Put Ryan Grant in at TE. He can block. Its not that stupid.

We just signed Alex Smith. He was with Gruden in Cincy. So me must know the plays. Makes sense.

True he most likely does know the plays, but I'm pretty sure that the terminology is different. A creative mind will insert him into the starting lineup provided he's physically ready, devise a separate communication system for him using previous terminology used in Cincy. Gruden surely remembers a lot of that.

You think Gruden changed his terminology since he was in Cincy? I think they picked him up because he is plug and play.
