How much does the hot seat grow for the HC and GM if the current situation continues? Stroud balling out his mind and everything we said about Young is holding true. I know nothing about their owner, but would he dump GM if they end up with a top 2 pick that they dont own because they traded to draft an under-sized, oft-injured QB?

Not trolling, seriously wondering. If I am the owner and the current status holds true, someone is losing their job!

You already invested heavily in the guy.

We are Week 4.

Reality is there needs to be more talent around him.

When your best WR is a past his prime WR2 player from the Vikings, you may need to go out and get a legit WR1.

Stroud has been really good but it’s early, very early. Every QB develops differently and it depends on the team around him and coaching too. Honestly, we have to revisit this after a couple years at least.

To me, that trade up because they fell in love with the good parts of the tape is a fatal flaw of many organizations. They're not realistic enough to look at the bad parts too. The bad things get magnified in the NFL where there is rarely a game where you outclass your opponent at every position. That compounds when you give up too much draft capital to move up and grab your new found love. It seems that there are teams that do it in just about every recent draft, sometimes it works out and usually it doesn't.

Most Seahawks fans (since we were in the discussion) were perfectly fine with Stroud (with the top 5 selection). NOBODY wanted Young (even if he fell). I thought the trade was absolutely stupid. I don't think I graded the actual trade, but if I did it was certainly in favor of the Bears.

People are way to quick to quit on developmental players. The development of Stroud or Richardson has nothing to do with Young. That roster doesn’t have much talent and they’re rebuilding.

I did not say quit on him. My question was phrased as in, if this holds true at end of the year. Also, I am not talking about wins and losses. I am talking about unnecessary hits, bad throws, poor reads and injuries

Don't think this year they'd get a lot of heat. Most people kind of understood when Adam Thielen is your WR1 in 2023, you're down bad. Now if they just refuse to passcatchers and actively stunt Young's development, then sure they'll get tons of flak.

They traded their only good WR.

This feels a bit like revisionist history. I spend a lot of time looking at drafts. A LOT of people had Young as QB1. Stroud was an Ohio State QB that everyone had questions about until his big game at Georgia.

The reality is that no QB is coming out of college NFL ready. They have to develop. We're looking at 2021 with 5 QBs picked high and there is a chance that Trevor Lawrence is the only good one. 1 good QB coming out of a draft is probably pretty close to the average historically.

Heck, the Bears had a chance at Stroud. Stroud was considered a better prospect than Fields by most.

You are basically flipping a coin when you are drafting a QB in the 1st round.

2012
1. Andrew Luck
2. Robert Griffin
8. Ryan Tannehill
22. Brandon Weeden

2013
16. EJ Manuel

2014
3. Blake Bortles
22. Johnny Manziel
32. Teddy Bridgewater

2015
1. Jameis Winston
2. Marcus Mariota

2016
1. Jared Goff
2. Carson Wentz
26. Paxton Lynch

2017
2. Mitch Trubisky
10. Patrick Mahomes
12. Deshaun Watson

2018
1. Baker Mayfield
3. Sam Darnold
7. Josh Allen
10 Josh Rosen

2019
1. Kyler Murray
6. Daniel Jones

2020
1. Joe Burrow
5. Tua Tagovailoa
6. Justin Herbert

2021
1. Trevor Lawrence
3. Trey Lance
11. Justin Fields
15. Mac Jones

It's why I have always said that fans who think that an average team should strip down and start over when the GM knows that if he picks incorrectly is virtually guaranteed to lose his job (and GM's rarely get 2nd chances) are just being crazy.

And in terms of this thread:
Justin Herbert looked like a better QB than Joe Burrow after year 1 by a long shot.
Sam Darnold would have been considered a better QB than Josh Allen after year 1 too.

Judging based on a single rookie season is silly.

So are the others.

Stroud is the one with prototypical size and traits. Makes sense to question it after the early results. Looks like he belongs.

Have to disagree there. Mingo hasn't played a lot and is raw. Thielen has played well, but looked cooked last year. Marshall/Shenault/Chark are JAGs at best.

I'd put Thielen and Woods about even these days. Collins is head and shoulders better than Marshall/Shenault/Chark, and Tank Dell is emerging much quicker than Mingo. Neither running game is inspiring, and they both have decent TEs (Schultz, Hurst) to help their rookie QBs.

All that aside, Reich needs to step it up and get his staff to develop this Panthers roster. They should be better.

Lawrence had trouble his rookie season ....if I remember right. A lot worse than Young.

Especially Richardson. He's a much different type of player that landed on a decently built shell team around him with the Colts. He only competed 44% of his passes yesterday, relying heavily on his legs.

Brady Quin was also drafted # 22 by my team.

I do not like the # 22.

He only completed 11 but 2 were for scores and he had a 98.8 PR.
