The Cardinals have plugged some holes and it hasn't cost them a Draft Pick or much in the way of prospects.

The Dodgers should take note and not sign any FA that will cost them a pick or trade away any top tier prospects. We don't need to disassemble the farm system to acquire David Price, for example. We can get by without Price.

Hopefully Ned is thinking clearly these days.

I think the only other "big" FA we might sign is Tanaka. I think Uribe comes back and I also think either Kemp or Ethier will be dealt for MORE youngsters (preferably Kemp to the Red Sox for Bogearts,Buchholz and another prospect...)

I gotta say that trading Kemp for Bucholz and Bogearts will never happen.

Well unless your name is Ned Colletti or Ben Cherington, you cannot really make that statement, now CAN you?? I suppose the fact that those 2 have been meeting on and off for the last 10 days and plan on meeting again after Thanksgiving means that they are just talking about their families. Bottom line is they know each other and neither is afraid to make the big splash and those are the names being tossed around.

Well, fine. I can't definitively say what the GMs are thinking about doing, and I can't predict the future. Maybe Cherington is going to have a stroke and lose all ability to think?

What I can do is logically conclude that a trade of Kemp for Buchholz/Bogaerts/OtherProspect is extremely unlikely for some pretty obvious reasons.

The most glaringly obvious reason is that Cherington would be a complete moron to make that trade. Bogaerts is their best prospect (and one of the best prospects in all of MLB) at a highly valuable position (SS/3B). Buchholz is one of their best starters and he's only 29 years old, he also has an extremely team-friendly contract. As if that's not enough, apparently the Red Sox need to throw in a third player...?

Kemp, on the other hand, is coming off of two injury-riddled seasons and has a hefty, long-term contract. His value has never been lower.

Why would the Red Sox trade more than two of their most valuable players for a questionable outfielder with a huge contract?

Buchholz is coming off an injury riddled season of his own and Farrell (AND Cherington for that matter) absolutely LOVE Middlebrooks. In addition, if they cannot resign Ellsbury (who is wanting more money than Kemp BTW) they will be in DESPARATE need of a CF with speed and power.

Okay, but he also has a very team-friendly contract. Middlebrooks will be traded WAAAAY before Bogearts. Come on man, these GMs aren't lunatics. Kemp and his contract are not worth a teams #2 starter, one of the top prospect, and another player on top of that.

I know, let's just trade Dee Gordon for Felix Hernandez, Scott Van Slyke for Evan Longoria, and Carl Crawford for Mike Trout!

Obviously Cherington is not as smart as you think because that proposal was HIS call to Ned. My guess is they want the Dodgers to eat the majority of the contract, which I would not do. Look I understand these are all just rumors and conjecture but bottom line is, the discussions are happening.

ESPN, Jim Bowden reported that he had been in contact with Cherington and that the names mentioned were Boegarts and Buchholz.... obviously nothing is completely public because they were only discussion. Personally, if I was Ned, I would offer Ethier for Bogearts straight up or for Middlebrooks and another prospect and just hold on to Kemp..
I did not mean to be so stand offish there Villian...I was having a crappy day that day.. brothers in blue, right?

Always. :suds:

Pardon me if I have a hard time believing anything I hear from the media. As a rational fan, it is advised to take anything written by the media with a grain of salt. I'm clearly on the other end of the spectrum where I basically believe nothing I hear/read from the media unless it's corroborated by multiple outlets with solid sources. Especially if it doesn't even pass the sniff test (ie, Kemp for Buchholz/Bogaets/OtherGuy).

If I'm Ned, I also make that Ethier for Bogearts offer. If I'm Cherington, I laugh and hang up the phone. Honestly, I think Ethier for Middlebrooks straight up is even slanted unevenly in the Dodgers favor, much less Middlebrooks plus another guy.

Don't forget, Ethier has been kinda terrible at baseball and his contract absolutely blows. Trading him should not be something we, as Dodger fans, can expect great things from unless some other team does something stupid - which is what Ned would be trying to bank on. Who knows? Maybe the Mariners will overreact after losing out on Choo, Cruz, Granderseon, Ellsbury, and Cano.... If their GM becomes desperate he might be silly enough to give the Dodgers a decent return for Ethier.

The Mariners have stud 3B prospect, DJ Peterson (I think Peterson is his last name) and his name along Dustin Ackley have been thrown about in a deal for Ethier... I would be ok with that. You could play Guerrero at 3B and Ackley at 2B until either Corey Seager or this Peterson kid from Seattle are ready for the big show.
