There’s a lot of good reasons to see this movie. The Kree-Skrull war is an important story arc in the comics. Obviously there may be allusions to what’s coming up.

But the PR for this movie has been terrible. I don’t think the lead is a terribly good actress and her comments are pissing off a lot of people. Marvel knows how to tell a story. They’ve proven it. Don’t need to club the audience over the head with certain messages or tropes.

I’ll probably still see it in theatres even though I feel it will be a flop.

Marvel has a lot riding on this movie. It feels like captain marvel is going to be the new captain America. If this flops, it might not change much, but if she is cringeworthy in the next avengers movie as well, it could be the writing on the wall for a complete reboot.

Yeah. It really depends how big her role is in Endgame. It’s too late to reshoot scenes if she doesn’t play well.

I think I am just so worn out by origin movies

I know they are needed in this MCU thing, but at this point I just don't want any more

I think the origin movies are some of their best movies but we already have so many.

My worry with the movie is that everyone is going to leave the theater thinking Samuel L Jackson is great but Captain Marvel is pretty generic

Well the placement of the movie was good there aren't any other movies going on for the month of march, Red State looks like a pretty good movie with John Goodman but it seems like the entire month of march is them trying to get people to watch the movie.

I am giving this a chance it may not be a game changer like Black Panther, Iron man, and Guardians of the Galaxy but Marvel needs a woman figure because I don't think Black Widow will get her own movie

well there is no doubt this is going to build the Nick Fury origin story as much as Captain Marvel, but I don't see how they can't both be great.

I like the idea of learning where Fury came from though. That is an interesting aspect of this movie.

I just got done watching a youtube video of someone spending an hour and a half talking about the video game from 2017 that had shapeshifters and its absolutely bonkers who much you can manipulate the viewer.

I'm also going into this movie thinking Brie Larson is a good actor and Captain Marvel is kind of a meh super hero. If the actual weakness of the movie is Brie Larson then the internets will probably be divided on this.

What I think is apparent from the reviews is that this isn't Black Panther. I'd be okay with another Thor 1, though.

I'm not sure I understand your first statement. Are you insinuating that the general concept of "shapeshifters" is or should be considered a high profile? If so, why?

Personally, I don't think anything special of a shapeshifting ability as it pertains to mutants/superheroes.

Where are you getting the idea that it's getting bad reviews? It's not getting bad reviews at all. On the contrary, it's getting very good reviews.

It's currently at 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is quite high.

Yeah, but that's the case with every movie. Every movie is going to have some people who aren't going to like it.

The overall critical consensus, though, is very good. Captain Marvel's 82% is quite high, comparable to Infinity War's 85% and Deadpool 2's 83% and far ahead of Aquaman's 65% or Venom's 29%.

I can't imagine going into a movie wanting to hate it

The main problem with the movie is the same problem the Superman movies have, she’s so overpowered that the movie loses all tension.

I mean yes we know the good guys are gonna win in the end anyway but when you have such an overpowered character the movie suffers for it.

It was better than some MCU movies(Dr. Strange for sure) but I’d give it about a 7/10.
