Nice to see individual teams come to the aid of another hockey team even if Bettman hasn't done anything at the NHL level.

Looks like this is also being done -

“Love for Lokomotiv” is a fundraiser spearheaded by Kodette LaBarbera (wife of Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Jason) and Katerina Jokinen (wife of Calgary Flames center Olli) and supported by the significant others of players from all 30 NHL teams. Bracelets will be sold to raise money at Love for Lokomotiv - Donations for the loved ones of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team, with all proceeds going to the families of the victims. The bracelets come in three different varieties: Adult beaded bracelets ($50), children’s beaded bracelets ($25) and red silicone bracelets that read “Love for Lokomotiv” ($10).

I just came across this:

Very sad, I don't understand what they are saying but you get the premise that the boy who is handicap wanted to meet his idol Pavol Demitra along with a few others. The sad part is this all just recently occurred and the episode was shown a few days after the tragic accident. Around the 20 minute mark you see the family live, very sad.

I honestly don't know if the wives/families of well off to very wealthy hockey players need money, but it's a nice gesture.
