Capitals having a pond hockey tournament

Thought this was kinda cool. Capitals hosting a pond hockey tournament at their training facility and paying for the winners to travel to the National Pond Hockey Championships and giving them Caps' sweaters to represent the team there.

Is this an NHL-wide initiative? Curious if any other teams are doing this.

The Kettler IcePlex isn't indoors is it? How can you have a pond hockey tournament indoors? It's like having a beer tent in a basement!

This is a very cool thing for the Capitals to do, I think every NHL team should have a mini-tournament. That would be a great for the league, and great for the local hockey cultures. I am kind of skeptical about sending a team to the NPHC, not really sure why. I guess to me the Pond Hockey Tourney is the grassiest of the grassroots, the most basic and pure form of hockey competition. I know the Capitals aren't sending in ateam with Ovechkin in disguise or anything, but it just seems weird to me. It should be more.... "homegrown" than that. I don't know, maybe I'm just a stupid cranky hockey elitist. No teams south of Chicago!! Helmets are for pussies! Allowing forward passing was a horrible rule to institute, it ruined the game!

So there is going to be a bunch of hockey in D.C. without there being any goalies involved.....Sounds about right to me!
