So right now we have roughly $14.3M in cap space.

$4M of that will be needed for draft picks
$3M for the emergency fund

So About $7M in spending space

Hall and Lavaou are still on roster (Fuck WHY??)

UNless we are going to count on the draft to fill

1 Starting D-line (assuming we will sign Logan)
1 ILB
1 RB
1 LG... (If we roll with Lavaou again I think it gets ugly)
1 WR... I know Dean.. we can totally count on Doctson

So unless we are basically done in FA, we either have to deal Kirk or get him signed long term, because what we can afford at this point is a few more guys like Ziggy Hood

At this point I'm Logan and...

1. Cook if he falls, if not Cunningham MLB
2. DE
3. MLB if Cook fell, another DE if he didn't.
4. WR
4. Mixon or a true, fast, space covering FS

Kiem mentioned MLB Hodges from SF. Wouldn't hurt my feelings if we snuck him in. Based on your cap analysis I assume Hightower and Zach Brown are out.

To get those guys we need to do one of three things..

1. Get Kirk signed long term ( doubtful right now)
2. Cut or rework Hall and Lavaou ( either works for me. I like Hall, but not at his current price. Lavaou is a nice guy.. but again not at his current price)

3. Rework a few other high priced guys

Possibly a combination of all three.

Side note, the longer guys like Hightower, Poe and a few other are still on the market, the better for us if we are actually targeting them. I think after tomorrow, all the OH MY GAWD he go paid how much kind of deals will be in the books.

I hope we can find a way to keep Hall. He said he's willing to take a cut. He's actually become a real solid leader. Never thought I'd say that. If they can control his snap count and not use him as a battering ram on 1st and 2nd, I think he'd hold up. Lauvao is 50/50 with me. If I thought Kujo was ready, I wouldn't hesitate. I'd bring Lauvao to camp and if Kujo look's good, I cut him. If not we might have to roll with him another year.

Leary, Lang and Zeitler are gone I believe? If Long wasn't progressing so well, I wouldn't mind him at G and Sullivan at C, but I don't want to mess with Long. Seems like he's settling in at C.

I keep hearing Poe to Atlanta. We'll see. I like Logan though, not as much as Poe, but a clear upgrade from Hood, Jenkins, and Ioanidis.

IM fine with Keeping Hood.. . as a backup. He actually performed better than I expected... but not well enough to be a starter. And he is better suited as a rotational pass rusher.

I would prefer Poe, but I would be actually pleased if we some how managed to get both him and Logan... but highly doubtful.

And I agree, I like Hall. I hope he stays.. an a limited snap count.... but not at his current $5M price tag. Lavaou needs to cost less and be a backup. Nice kid, gives his all.. but his all aint enough as a starter.

I tried telling some of you that we need more cap space. We can save at least 16 million by trimming the fat.

Hall = 4.25 million
Lauvao = 4 million
Litch = 3.25 million (we might already have this since he retired)
Paul = 2 million
Carriker = 1 million
Blackmon = 1 million

Keep in mind, we need to achieve the following in FA so we can actually use the draft to fill in the remaining holes.

1. Sign a starting DLineman. Hopefully its Logan.
2. Sign another WR. Probably a #2 or #4 depending on Doctson's health. C. Patterson would have been perfect.
3. Get an ILB. Gerald Hodges would be a great fit and is only 26.
4. Get a backup/rotational DLineman. Lawrence Guy should be the target here.
My best guess and I am probably off would be:

DL (starting) = 6-7 million a year at the least
WR #2 = 5 million a year
ILB (starting) = 5-6 million
DL (rotational)= 3-4 million

On the high end, thats 22 million more. If Shark is right and we have 7 million right now. With the proposed cuts, we should be able to do this. This would set us up for a focused draft. The draft would then be targeted toward (in no order): RB, LG, FS, ILB and depth everywhere. We cannot enter the draft with all the holes we have left.

Duke.. we have $14M right now, but I take half that away for draft picks and the emergency fund. Things are not desperate... but the longer we have $24M tied into a QB who might only be here one year, the worse it is for this season.

Shark, I think your math is right and I agree with you. Bottom line is we need more cap room to set up the draft. If we can draft a RB in the first 3 rounds, it would be fantastic. We have a gaping hole at LG, RB, ILB and DLine right now. We are going in the right direction but we aren't there yet.

Also, if Dan is going to side with Team Bruce over Team Kirk, then they should trade him asap. We can get something now or let him walk next year and get nothing.

Disagree... $3M for a rotational guy who can stay healthy and does contribute is not too bad. Is he a starter?? NOpe... but get a true starter and have Freaky Jean as the rotational guy and Im fine with his number.

Team Bruce is team Dan. Im telling you, they are both still butt hurt over the RG3 failure and would rather send the team back into QB hell than pay Kirk. But Dan also aint going to send Kirk to the one place where we might get something of worth.

I think if Kirk isnt dealt by the time the Niners pick, they are going to hope Watson is there at 17, have Kirk play out the year on the tag and proclaim we always had a plan in place and it worked out flawlessly. Right now they are just praying that

1. Cutler goes to the Jets
2. The Browns dont fuck us at 12 and take Watson

YOu could be right. BUt if we cut him, we still have to fill his spot.

Maybe he is another guy who we should try to lower his salary.

I'm guessing with restructures that will jump to about $20 million.
I think the team likes Lavaou, who knows why and blame his play on injuries. Hall is a good locker room guy.
RJF just ripped the F.O. so he will be cut yesterday....not sure if Niles Paul will survive cuts once he is fully healthy
