UNL has made it crystal clear across the board that they have absolutely no interest in fielding a hockey team.

I don't know why, because I think the interest would be there and I think the fans would show up in droves. Combine the Lancers and Stars fanbases and you've got a raucous crowd.

They are talking about building a small recreational rink/compex for youth comp and the public though, right?

Because UNO has a hockey team. One per university system is enough.

The B1G might push for it. As of now there are only 6 teams which is not enough. Like was mentioned above, it would be beneficial for the university because people would definitely be interested, and the biggest concern is already taken care of (the arena). I would love to see us get a team but it is at least a couple years off.

Title IX will keep it from happening. They would have to eliminate another men's sport or two that have a similar # of players. They either do that or add another women's sport or two to equal the # of players of adding a hockey team.

They don't have the budget to add both men's hockey and another women's sport or two. Women's sports are money losers.

Regardless of all the specifics and red tape (I get it) but I think hockey could be a revenue generator for the university. I also think the rivalry between UNO and UNL would be sweet. Add women's curling if you have too. Fuck Title IX

You could probably add women's hockey and the revenue from the men's team could support it. There is no reason it can't happen. Anyone that says otherwise is mistaken. And yes, the university has vehemently denied any desire to field a hockey team. That does NOT mean that they aren't interested in it. I have heard from several people that within 10 years or so it will happen. Take that for what its worth.
