10:27PM: Ryan Callahan is out 4-6 weeks with a second degree MCL sprain (MSG)
8:29PM: The Rangers have announced that Ryan Callahan has suffered a KNEE SPRAIN and will NOT return to tonight’s game. (MSG)
In the middle of the first period, Callahan bumped Victor Bartley of Nashville and as Bartley was spun around on the boards, his leg seemed to trap Callahan’s leg against the boards.
Callahan immediately hunched over and raised his leg to shake away the pain before heading to the bench.
Prior to a TV timeout, Callahan, at the far end of the bench, stepped onto the ice and skated the length of the bench before heading to the door that leads into the Rangers locker room.
John Giannone said, “Callahan came to the bench and decided to give it a ten-second rule….he would give it ten seconds to see what the pain was like before summoning trainer Jim Ramsey at the opposite end of the bench. Callahan winced the entire ten seconds and then finally said enough is enough I got to get off the ice.”
Callahan’s last shift ended at 10:11 of the first period.
