Looks like he was playing mostly basketball? The tape is kind of light regarding football.

his entire college career he had something like 4 catches for 54 yards. But he did have 4 TD’s so I like that conversion rate haha

Payton is literally trying to find Jimmy Graham.

You know you are inexperienced when you need your basketball highlights to fill up a 1 minute video.

What?!
He did have 4 catches, for 54 yards, and 4 TDs. According to my calculator that a 100% TD to reception ratio!

I think Graham had like 17 catches and I don’t think Antonio Gates even played football until the NFL so maybe Payton has this weird sense about inexperienced basketball converts.

And maybe this guy isn’t any good and we wasted a seventh round pick for nothing, not a huge loss at the end of the day

He is definitely athletically gifted. Testing wise he tested as one of the more athletic TE's in this entire draft so in the 7th I guess I don't mind taking a shot on a kid that just maybe something fun could come out of it.

I like this pick. This guy could develop into a huge matchup nightmare. The beauty is we don't need him to do it all in one season since we have EE on the roster now. A solid way to wrap up a pretty solid draft!

For those upset about the Broncos taking him where they did he was not going to sign with the Broncos if allowed to become an UDFA. The Colts and his agent had a deal in place as he was a huge priority for them from the UDFA pool. It was take him in the 7th or don't get him.

Why would anyone be upset about a 7th round selection?

It’s also good to know we swiped him before the Colts could.

The idea of drafting a guy with only 1 year of experience and 5 catches to his name in college has some people questioning why couldn't we just get him as an UDFA type. I think that a lot of 7th round picks are probably not always the top player on a team's board but more the players they don't think will actually sign with them as an UDFA.

Didn't he have a deal with Indy IF he wasn't drafted? 6'7 athletic and so green worth a shot esp in round 7.

Indy and Jacksonville were both in contract talks with him if undrafted.

Denver wanted him bad enough.

I remember helping a player back years ago named Trumaine McBride. I specifically told Trumaine before the draft that if any teams call him late and ask him if he will sign with them if he goes undrafted to tell them he wasn't sure because he has had a lot of teams calling him asking him that.

You obviously don't want to say "NO", because then if you do go undrafted that team isn't calling you back... Rather you leave them in limbo so if they want you bad enough that will get in their head that they better draft you.

He told me the Bears called him early in Round 7 and asked him if he went undrafted would he sign with them?

He told them exactly what I suggested he tell them.

Soon they are OTC and it pops up

CHICAGO BEARS

Trumaine McBride, CB, Ole Miss

I like to think my advice got him drafted that year. ;) He played 10 years in the NFL.
