Cowboys first-round cornerback Byron Jones had season-ending left shoulder surgery in 2014, his final season at Connecticut. On Sunday, Jones injured the same shoulder again.
Via Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram,Jones collided with cornerback Morris Claiborneduring seven-on-seven drills. It’s not believed to be serious, but it will keep him out of two days of joint practices with the Rams, which start Monday. He’s also not likely to play in the second preseason game, against the 49ers.
“That sure was a concern because that was the shoulder he had fixed [that ended his season early at UConn last year],” owner Jerry Jones said, via Davison. “If we had to do anything we could probably do some playing, but under the circumstances we’ll just rest him real good and call it a good thing it worked out.”
Claiborne was uninjured, calling it a “football accident.” Claiborne indirectly benefits from that accident, apart from not being injured. He’ll get more opportunities to gain full confidence of an organization that opted not to pick up the fifth-year option on the 2012 first-round pick.
