NFL fines Aqib Talib $26,044 for Super Bowl personal fouls

Florio makes it sound like this will be it......Though I will point out that Burfict was fined before he was suspended, so maybe there is still time?

Regardless, if he doesn't get suspended, this is complete bullshit. A repeat offender that admits that he committed a disgusting flagrant foul and doesn't get suspended?

he knew that the penalty was only going to net the other team a yard and a half and decided it was worth it.

he is what is wrong with the sport, and the NFL gives him a slap on the wrist. here's 5 million dollars, oh, and we're going to set this little bit aside for you t pay fines with. you won't miss it.

idiots.

The NFL doesn't want him suspended for the first game of the year.... It's a Thursday night game in Denver and the banner will be dropped. They don't want any negative news associated with the event.

They'll probably just put us on television at 1:00 for the first three weeks and pretend that Burfict doesn't exist. They'll then bring him off for a MNF so they can talk about him for the entire week and drum up some drama about his grand return. He'll respond by doing something embarrassing for the national television cameras. Skip Bayliss will say he should be kicked out of the league. Stephen A. Smith will go on a rant about how if he were white we wouldn't call his antics cheap...... This stuff is fairly predictable.

Wilcots agrees. Burfict, suspended for the first three games of this season for repeated violations of player safety rules, has to adjust his game.

“I love the mentality with which he plays. But as a coach, you have to tell him to be smart," Wilcots says. "You can’t hit people in the head. We know you can win games, but you can’t lose them.”

That said, Wilcots objects to the notion that Burfict’s concussion-causing hit on Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown over the middle on the game’s last play that was flagged 15 yards for hitting a defenseless player was malicious. He says Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier’s hit that knocked Bengals running back Giovani Bernard out of the game with a concussion in the third quarter not only should have been flagged as an illegal hit to the head, but it was more malicious than Burfict’s play.

“I want to put it into context for fans,” Wilcots says, “why Vontaze Burfict plays like he plays against Pittsburgh. Because Pittsburgh has been playing that way against the Bengals forever.

“Vontaze Burfict was not trying to hurt Antonio Brown. Go look at it,” Wilcots says. “He could have annihilated him. The kid was exposed. He gave him a glancing blow with his shoulder to the head. He didn’t lead with his head or forearm . . . he didn’t unload on Antonio Brown.

“(Shazier) led with the crown of the head to the head. That’s the key,” Wilcots says. “Which hit was more vicious?”

Hmmmm....exactly what I have been saying from the moment this all occurred. I was pissed at Boomer Esiason for making the comments he made following the game. He was acting all offended and hurt that Burfict plays with so little class. Then everyone went into excuse mode for Shazier on why this was not illegal etc. There is no way by definition that was a legal hit when the rule states what it states. I know it is over with, but it still pisses me off beyond belief. I can live with not making it past the wild card game, for F sake, I am a Bengals fan, I am immune. I am not immune to the Pittsburgh bullshit and the favoritism the league shows them along with announcers. They have been doing this shit for years, but as long as they are doing it, it is okay. But do it against them? OMG...are you kidding, you will be crucified.

the NFL is caught up in the semantics of the rule book, and giving lip service about protecting players. Any objection is met with "Quit being a pansie"... it's why I wonder why I give up my Sunday afternoons to watch a game when I already know the outcome, even pro wrastlin is less predictable.

Because this is the year, Dan. The Oregon State Beavers are going to the NCAA tournament led by Senior Gary Payton II (led team in Pts, Rebs, Asts, and is back-to-back Pac-12 Defensive POY) for the first time since Gary Payton I lead them into the tournament back in 1990. That drought ends, and so will the Bengals playoff drought winless streak end.
