you don't tank if you want to establish a WINNING mentality...

I agree.

It's a Catch-22. On the one hand, as a fan you want to see a winning effort every night and as much as some of us talk about tanking, I doubt many of us are rooting for them to lose once the game starts.

On the other hand, there's a top 5 pick and the opportunity to possibly get a game changer in the draft.

Look around Staples. Who says the Lakers fans suck. The arena is nearly filled and that is true fans supporting the team during this crappy period. Not so in other NBA cities who are crappy!

Lakers fans get a bad rap, imo. Lakers fans have always demanded that the team play hard every game. If they don't, Lakers fans won't show up. Lakers fans have, however, shown that if the team plays hard every game, we will show up, even if it's a bad team.

This year shows that, they are undermanned and on pace to set a franchise record for losses, but they play hard every single game and because of that, fans are showing up for the games.

Tanking for picks IMO is a losers mentality...

No double edged sword for me, it's as clear as day.

I agree. Once the game starts, I want them to win, but when they lose, I console myself with thoughts of a top 5 pick and a little medical marijuana.

The picks are more important. Lose the games. We're 2 games away from having the 3rd worst record in the NBA. With Minny getting its better players back healthy (Rubio, Martin, Pekovic and they traded for KG), they might start winning games. It would be majorly beneficial to be in that 3 slot because the chances of falling out of the Top 5 from that spot are very slim.

This "winner's mentality" doesn't really mean much considering there's only about 4 or 5 players that MIGHT have a long term future with the team. And most of those guys are young enough to where 2 months of losing isn't going to permanently shape their careers. Plus, its not even like you're saying "Hey, go miss this shot". It's more like "We're down double digits in the 4th. I'm not putting my starters back in". You're doing more damage than good by trying to claw back and win games now. You can teach the team about winning when you actually have a roster full of players that's worth teaching.

We're still stuck with the 4th worst record after the 3 game winning streak and are unlikely to catch Orlando. They have 3 more wins than we do.
