I feel like this draft weekend got away from me this year. I only got to watch the 1st round live. This is the problem when your wife's birthday falls on the draft almost every single year and well for the sake of our marriage I feel like I better choose taking my wife out over the draft.

Anyway just looking over our draft I have to give it a solid B+. I never thought that would be possible after the fact that we missed out on drafting a QB in the 1st. I thought that was the only way I could be happy with this draft but at the present moment I really can't complain.

Bradley Chubb--Best Non-QB pick in the top-10 in my opinion. The Broncos absolutely needed to add to their pass rush and in a draft lacking quality pass rushers the Broncos got the only one that I would feel comfortable saying will be a quality starter in this league. Love his work ethic, his game, his non-stop motor. There just isn't much to complain about when looking at this kid.

Courtland Sutton--Nick will tell you I have ragged on this guy all draft season. My biggest issue is that he is the type of WR that probably doesn't offer the year 1 impact that you would hope for. He ran a very limited route tree and pretty much was told go deep then out jump the defense for a big play. Yes he did more than that but just other receivers I liked better. Now having said that he will offer Red Zone ability day 1 with his ability to jump and strong hands. He is a high character guy as well so hopefully as the season progresses we see more of an impact out of him. My biggest thing with him is learning how to get open in the NFL. His route running is just not up to par right now.

Royce Freeman--This is another pick where I had other guys at the position rated higher than him. He is a good pick up for what the Broncos lost in C.J. Anderson though as he does have great vision and a little bit of wiggle to get skinny and pick up extra yards. I honestly want to see him lose just a bit of weight to get a little more spark to his game. He isn't your typical 230 lb. RB as he is not a mauler in my opinion.

Isaac Yiadom--I absolutely love this pick! He was my favorite defensive back at the Senior Bowl. I watched him consistently shut down receivers of all sizes and speeds. Should have honestly had about 5-6 interceptions during practices but couldn't hold onto the ball. A+ pick in my opinion at this point in the draft.

Josey Jewell--High Character, hard worker, instinctive, and the list can go on of good things to say about this kid. For a 4th round pick I'll definitely take it. I really do think one of the underrated parts of this draft is just the leadership and character of these players coming into the building. The Bronocs needed an infusion of leadership and hard workers.

DaeSean Hamilton--He is like the opposite version of Sutton at this point. Not as athletic and gifted but one of the true best route runners in this entire draft. Honestly he might have more day 1 impact than that of Sutton because route runners seem to translate better to the NFL right away. Home run pick for the Broncos.

Troy Fumagalli--Not my favorite TE in this draft but again value value value at this point is great. He is a guy that will have a role and provide depth at a position very much lacking at this point for the Broncos.

Sam Jones--Needs to hit the weight room and cafeteria hard his first year here in Denver. Thankfully the Broncos have a top notch facility to do just that. Just hoping he isn't starting year 1.

Honestly haven't watched much of the last 2 picks so will leave those alone for now.

As for the UDFA haul I honestly think this might be one of our better groups we have ever had. Jeff Holland alone is a guy I was shocked didn't get drafted. He is raw for sure but I could see him having that Shaq Barrett kind of career of year one just learning the system and getting himself into NFL shape then burst onto the scene year 2.

Sutton sounds like DT out of college
His route tree was a go route

Remeber how many of you loved Carlos last year
His selection made your drafts and he was just put on notice.

Now it comes down to the player and coaching .

I hope Pitts did not find another gem in Washington while Denver Is left with a Latimer
If true , then Denver’s image of what a WR must be is totally incorrect.
Denver wants big bodied WRs . He looks like a raw better version of Brandon Lloyd

Don't sleep on DaeSean Hamilton. I'm telling you this guy isn't sexy, but he is good in every phase. He is such a pure route runner, smart, good hands... Remember all during the draft Kiper was talking about "Does so and so check off all the boxes on the scouting report?

Hamilton does.

I feel like Hamilton is the least likely WR to fail of any in the top 4 rounds. He may not have the star potential, but he is going to play in the NFL for a VERY long time, IMO. I just get excited about his guy when I think about his route running out of the slot. Actually, reminds me a bit of Emmanuel Sanders coming out of college. Sanders may have a bit more speed but Hamilton may be a little more developed coming out. Hamilton is a guy who is ready to play right away.

Bad news- I am pretty sure this is my favorite Denver draft in my 27 years of watching the NFL draft. I loved the year we took DT, Decker and Perrish Cox but that was for personal reasons... That bad news is, since I like it... It probably isn't going to work. ;)

BTW,

After Mason Rudolph was selected there was no QB in this draft that I liked more than Chad Kelly!

I think the Broncos had one of the best drafts. Elway took most of the guys that I personally liked.

Congratulations.

Atleast Kelly beat Alabama twice???
All these other non round 1 QBs drafted played in sub par defensive conferences
I think Elway needs to see both Lynch and Kelly play substantial minutes before replacing them with other mid round QBs. Not enough practice time for 3 QBs plus Kelly

Ray Lewis said first time he saw Chubb same feeling he had first time he saw Suggs
Broke down Chubb and his karate like reaction to the OLineman
Feel really good when Lewis gushes over Chubb
Seems like Lewis can break down a defensive player with the best of them

I love our top 7 picks after I have read more about them. Not so sure about the last 3. They seem like reaches to me, but I don't really know enough about them. They seem more like UDFAs then guys that should have been drafted. All good tough. I will cheer them as much as any of the others.

Not sure you can really call round 6-7 round picks reaches. lol

Sam Jones had a rd 6-UDFA grade
Bierria had Rd 6- UDFA
Williams had priority FA

If they give us anything it will be a bonus. I think Bierria will make it on special teams. I think of him as Corey Nelson's replacement.

It is clear Elway wants a power running game here drafting Freeman and Williams. He doesn't want the Akrum Wadley's or Alvin Kamara's of the world.

David Williams did well in GL situations last year my concern (and not much of a concern/care in the 7th but I don't want to throw away picks so I want to take the BPA each time) but just the fact the guy was highly recruited coming out and South Carolina always seemed to give him the starting RB job for him to lose and well he lost it everytime. Will Muschamp use to really criticize Williams at South Carolina, called him out for poor work ethic and not putting the time into meetings. Muschamp had to challenge him everyday to get him motivated and then he ended up losing the job two years in a row. Seemed to pick it up a bit more at Arkansas. But never consistent. I remember he did catch the ball well vs Texas A&M when they gave him some play as a receiver out of the backfield this year when Devwhale Whaley had broken his jaw opening up an opportunity for Williams, and he did take advantage of it, but Arkansas really struggled last year on the ground. They used 3 and sometimes 4 RB's and other then Ragnow had a weak OL... He's just a guy who is really hard to judge what you're getting. He was very inconsistent with production and what type of role he had between South Carolina and Arkansas. Really surprised he was picked but shouldn't be as it was round 7. Sorta like the Trevor Siemian and Okie State DB we took a few years back who had little production in college football... It's like WHY? What do you see, but hard to be upset in round 7.

It just kills me that Akrum Wadley goes undrafted and David Williams gets drafted. :)

Hope he is a star though. ;)

You know you're doing well when your biggest letdown pick was your 7th round RB.

Arizona got the steal of the draft

Just third- and fifth-round picks to get your QBOTF. Rosen and Allen will be linked to Denver because Elway had a chance to get the QB .

Maybe the trade back to 12 then up to 10 giving up a 3rd to get Rosen will be the main discriminator when talking the 2018 Denver draft and how we view it 3 years from now.

Not sure Elway liked any QB but Darnold on day one.

GB looked to correct the CB position with prior bad drafts like Denver did with WR.

It seems like certain teams are always looking for the same position.

Green Bay is always looking for CB's
Washington is always looking for DL
Baltimore, Jacksonville and Tennessee were always looking for WR but they seemed to fix that a bit after last year.

I'm just glad we got out of the stage of always looking for DL but it seems that has turned to OL for now.

Not sure why but I like Jaire Alexander. Would not have been there at #22 had they traded back. I'm glad they stayed at #5 and got Chubb.

I wasn't as high on Alexander as many. I liked Josh Jackson who they got in round 2 better. Alexander is boom or bust to me though. He has great ballskills. I'd just fear he could be another Ahmad Carroll for the Packers. He could also go the other way and be very good. I may not have seen him on his best games, but the last two years I felt like everytime I watched Louisville he was very inconsistent.

I've actually been saying since Hamilton was picked that he could have more year 1 impact for the Broncos than that of Sutton. Great route runners are the type that come in and have impact early in their careers. To me Sutton needs a year to learn from DT and have him show what he learned from Manning on route running. Sutton will have goal line opportunities for sure and some other chances here and there but I just think Bronco fans might be let down how much of an impact he makes year 1.
