Vic Fangio and referee Ron Torbert had an interesting exchange early in the second quarter of the Broncos’ 27-13 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

The situation: On second-and-7 from the Giants’ 10, Broncos tight end Albert Okwuegbunam caught a six-yard pass, but fumbled near the sideline. Safety Logan Ryan recovered and the on-field ruling was he secured possession before he touched out of bounds.

All turnovers are reviewed and it appeared the call would be overturned when the Broncos’ offense ran back onto the field.

“You guys probably saw them talking to me the whole way — they first told me it was going to be our ball and they were figuring out where to exactly place it and the timing element,” Fangio said Monday.


Torbert then returned to give the Broncos head coach another message.

“He came back and said, ‘You’re not going to like this,’” Fangio said. “The head guy in New York (Walt Anderson) came in and said, ‘Let it stand,’ and overruled the first guys’ verdict on it. The first guy that looked at it and made the call from New York, along with the referee, was going to reverse it and then the head guy came in and said, ‘Let it stand.’”

Well, that is messed up on many different levels. Should be investigated, but it won't.

The call came in from New York that the call was to be reversed but the head referee decided to say let it stand.

So he overturned the official review not a "subordinate."

So in other words the reviews don't matter.

It was the head of reviews, Anderson, who made the final call. So yes, the review team made the final decision, not on the field.

It sounds like the head review ref overturned a lower ref's ruling. It's working as intended as far as I can see.
