The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forwards Carter Ashton and David Broll to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2016. Ashton had been held pointless in seven regular season games with the Maple Leafs this season, while Broll had yet to skate in a game for the Maple Leafs this season and has recorded one assist in five career NHL games.

The Leafs effectively giving away Ashton and Broll was to create some flexibility in case of trades, going from 50 contract (limit) to 48.
