If you see this from Brock now - as fans - I imagine the Broncos got to see it even earlier. I still think Elway knew he could bid Oz up in FA and not have to worry about him taking the Broncos offer.

I believe 4 years $64MM is too much skin in the game not to want the outcome to be in your favor

Being the sweet guy you all know I am, I will still root for Brock except vs Denver obviously. Although he's not been very popular since leaving Denver I still appreciate his play and effort for those 7 games. He was very instrumental in getting Denver to SB and for that he has at least earned my gratitude and well wishes for success in future.

What do the numbers matter if you know the guy is dedicated to leave anyway?

So kind of a funny thing related to this topic or at least player. The Texans secondary for the most part destroyed Osweiler today picking him off on multiple occasions leading one of their beat writers to claim that the Texans now have the league's best secondary for this upcoming season. A Bronco writer in response to that called it the "Osweiler effect." Just made me chuckle a bit.

This has a rivalry smell to it for sure ... I guess it all depends on how well OZ preforms the next few years though .

Letting Oz walk in my opinion is one of the biggest risks Elway has taken so far in his tenure with the Broncos. Probably right up there with signing a QB coming off 4 neck surgeries that nobody quite knew what he would be but you handed him huge money anyway. Thankfully that first one panned out well for us. If Osweiler actually becomes a great QB in this league then yeah Elway will definitely catch some flack for letting him get out the door. If Osweiler doesn't even make it through this big contract with the Texans Elway once again looks like a genius GM for knowing Osweiler wasn't worth huge money and moving on. Also depends on how well Lynch develops.

If Paxton Lynch becomes a great quarterback for the Broncos, Elway will still look like a genius even if Brock performs well. In that scenario, the Broncos would still have a great quarterback for 5 years at a tenth the price!

It's funny the beat writer didn't consider the OTHER possibility in that observation :pound:

Good point. Elway has more options to look good in this situation compared to say he did sign Osweiler where it is he plays well or the Broncos look like they made a panic move to sign a guy who hadn't really done much of anything.

Haha well of course it couldn't be that their new $72 million golden boy is part of the problem and could be anything but an All-Pro level QB.

Speaking of low QB play
No one has stood out yet in bronco land
Big questions marks still at the most important position

True but at least our QB question is only costing us around $6 million for all 3 compared to $18 million for one for the Texans.

I really don't either. I wasn't impressed with how he left the team though. I mean cutting off all communication to your teammates and then not joining them for the ring ceremony when you didn't have any Texans related practices or meetings to me just doesn't quite sit well. His play though was part of us winning a Super Bowl so can't be upset with him for how he helped this team and really he went and got the best offer he could. Great for him and his family.

All of his actions though help me feel much better about him leaving Denver in the sense of that type of attitude from the guy you are hoping will lead your team just doesn't seem like a guy when the pressure is turned up will step up and really get control of the team. From rumors of his benching during the Chargers game we saw this close up where he just kind of lost it. Sounds like he started cussing out coaches that were trying to help him and just didn't seem to have it all there. So I wish him well but unless something changes in his ability to handle those kind of situations I see him struggling.

This may sound strange coming from the person who at KFFL disliked the selection of Brock more than anyone - but he has moved on. And I don't disagree with that mindset. I wouldn't be excited about our biggest offseason acquisition (in any year) having one foot in our camp, but still having another on the old team's business. When Brock's career is done, he can look back - but right now if he does that he's likely to get run over.

I guess I just don't view going to a ring ceremony when nothing else is going on related to your current team as him stepping back. It is receiving what is rightfully his and having a night of celebration of all the hard work. To me going back with those kind of stories to tell your current team can help motivate in just wanting to have that same experience. When other players from that 2015 team that have moved to other teams come back for all these things I don't view it as them struggling to move on or that it will effect their current season with the new team.

I can understand missing the White House visit. He had practice that day and I think it is great that he wants that time with his new team. I honestly think that was showing great leadership. At the same time though then after using that excuse of why you didn't go to the White House and then having no excuse to miss the Ring Ceremony it just to me makes me think him being at practice was more to do with his frustration with the Broncos than him actually wanting to be with his teammates.

4.5% when the average of NFL teams is 18-20 % for the elite QB. I'm OK with that if they keep the defense together. Everyone hopes to luck into a Seattle situation.

That definitely is the hope. We will have to see what Lynch ends up becoming. For me I was very ok with the team letting Osweiler walk for the type of money that he ended up getting. I saw his value in the $12 million range. That is above back up level pay but not so much that commits us huge money wise to him not knowing what he will become. I thought that to be fair but hey can't blame him for getting the most he could. To me if you don't feel like he is a for sure franchise QB then I think the Broncos went the best way possible of getting a veteran with a lot of starting experience, drafting a very promising QB early on in the draft, and then your other late round draft pick from the year before. Gives us 3 viable options and let them compete. Plus even if they are terrible well at least we are paying them at a terrible level. I mean Sanchez isn't even making top back up money so even if he becomes our back up or is a terrible starter at least it falls in line with what he is being paid.

Plus I look at the fact that we can now sign guys like Sanders and Marshall on top of Von Miller as a win because of letting Osweiler walk. I don't think we can sign those guys if we sign Osweiler.
