It appears a punch thrown by Danny Briere on Sunday has proven to be costly.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Briere was fined $1,000 by the NHL for throwing a punch from the bench at Brandon Prust of the New York Rangers on Sunday.

Earlier in the play, Prust had steamrolled Flyers' defenceman Kimmo Timonen and then skated by the Flyers bench, leading to a melee.

The report indicates that Flyers' forward Scott Hartnell also attempted to punch Prust from the bench but was not penalized.
