Sorry to say it Brett...but your career is very likely. He's lucky to be alive, but I'd bet my bottom dollar that he has athlete's heart. Sad indeed. Best luck in your recovery!

What's scary is that it doesn't matter what shape your in. In fact, being an athlete is what causes this issue. Heart muscle grows too large, can't pump enough blood, etc. etc. The scary thing is: you don't know you have it without an EKG, and even then you can't predict if having a "large heart" will cause cardiac distress. Kids in HS are dropping dead because of this...and if they survive, they'll never play sports again. Crippling. Which causes another issue: even if you have every young athlete get an EKG, and find some with predisposing factors, can you really tell them not to play? There are plenty of athletes leading healthy active lives with it...who do you tell no and who do you let play? It's a big issue right now.
