What do you guys think the chances are of this guy falling to us ALA Riley Reiff a few years back at #23? Scouts inc has him as the #10 prospect, I remember Reiff being 10-12 the whole draft process and nobody thought he would be around at #23. Iowa O-lineman tend to be these bad ass corn fed mofo's who have long careers. Be nice to have a pair of those guys at right and left tackle or if Waddle comes back healthy. Put him at LG next to Reiff.

O-line would be

Reiff- 26yo
Scherff- 23
Swanson- 23
Warford- 23
Waddle- 23

Backup swing tackle- Lucas- 23

Quite a formidable, young and talented group that would serve the Lions well for the next 8-10 years.

I'm all about an OT or DT in the 1st, so count me in.

I will give Mayhew this much credit... He has an eye for talent for linemen in drafts. Pretty much his saving grace. That and the Darius Slay pick.

Don't forget Levy was a 3rd rounder. And Whitehead was a 5th...

I like Scherff and all, but I honestly do NOT see him making it to #23... All the TJ Clemmings lovers will more than likely tend to be drawn to Scherff as the more NOW READY OT in this class. JMO.

If a OT did fall to us and we weren't looking for a RB (Mayhew, ya know + the Reggie Bush health) I'd take ERECK Flowers from tU (Mia-Fla) over Scherff all day, every day + thrice on Sunday....

Scherff reminds me of Reiff more than Bulaga or Robert Gallery and neither of the Latter are/were NFL caliber LT's, IMO...

I'm still man-crushing on LSU La'el Collins tho, 1st and foremost, then Flowers... Collins, I do believe won't ever become that possible LT but give Flowers two years and I see a lot of Tyron Smith in this kid, just a bigger more powerful version of Smith (at least in my eyes)

I don't think Flowers or Collins make it to 23, unfortunately. I think Flowers goes top-15 after the combine...

Im not opposed to it but if we draft a tackle at 23, he better be starting at LT. Not sure if I like drafting a RT there or a tackle and moving him to a guard. At 23, the Lions will probably be looking at the third best tackle on the board. If they want a gaurd, Cann should be available.

The 3rd best tackle might be better than the best guard, though.

Maybe I'm missing someone (it's early in the process still, so maybe I am), but there doesn't seem to be any top-15 guards in this year's class so far...

:agree: I am not worried about picking an O-lineman in the first round when there are so many better Tackles we could convert and pick up a round or 2 later.

I disagree with the notion of we shouldnt draft a certain position in a certain spot. If we draft anyone at any position that can come in and be a solid starter then I'm dang happy.
