My understanding of Alford is that while he is fast, it takes him a long time to hit that speed and he's not very quick/flexible. There has to be a good reason why a guy with his 40 time lasted so long in the draft and this is apparently why. So, he might be a good one trick pony - A guy that can take the top off the defense, but he might struggle to get open on shorter routes.

The draft was deep at WR the last two season. There were a dozen quality UDFA's last season at WR, and some good ones who didn't even become UDFA's.

With Green and Eifert, you only need a one-trick pony on the opposite side, someone who can run fast down the sideline. Marvin Jones was able to coax 5 PI's last season for over 100 yards, so you don't even have to necessarily catch the ball. Personally, I viewed Alford as a Slot Receiver coming out of college, but the Bengals saw him as Marving Jones' replacement from the get-go. I thought that was in error, but we'll see. I'm sure they saw something that I didn't to make that assessment. Tobin and his staff are as good as it gets, and half the NFL evaluators of talent are not very good, in my opinion.

I'm probably dreaming, but I envision Alford streaking deep to keep the safeties honest, opening things up in the middle for Green and Eiffert.
It must be how they see it.

Before the A. J. Green signing, I wanted someone like that to replace Green, and I wanted to resign Marvin Jones (I think he'll get 90/1250/10 his first year in Detroit), and use the difference in money elsewhere on the team. I don't think Dalton is good enough to take advantage of a $17M/yr WR.

But, as said earlier, I think it takes him too long to get up to that 40-timed speed, too. I didn't see it coming off the line, which is why I think he'd be a better Slot Receiver (which was also suggested). Hit him in stride on a quick-route, and he can use that speed to break away from a Defender and get some yards-after-the-catch.

Yeah, I saw the same thing coming out of College, which is why I was a little surprised when I heard them say they were drafting him as insurance for Marvin Jones' departure.

still expect they will draft someone, but I guess he's better than Greg Little.

He's a body. It would be an improvement.

I just hope this doesn't distract from the raw domination that Brandon Tate has in charge for the likes of the Pittsburgh and NE defenses. much less the spectacle he's going to put on display for our home game in London 10/30/2016

Touchbacks now awarded to the 25 yard line. Tate has no reason to ever return a kick if its in the end zone now.

There's zero reason to waste a roster spot on a Kick Returner (hasn't been since they moved the kickoff back to the 35 several years ago).
