Brad said that agreeing to waive would make him obligated to deal with the new team. And if he does sign with this team then he has made his new team weaker by making them give up picks for something they could have for free. (If 8 mil a year can be called free)

Smart move for Richards, bad for Big-D.

ok. this makes total sense. I guess they know what teams he will play for and that one was not one of them. wonder who it was.

If he doesn't want to be traded, Philly might be out of the question. Maybe he'll (be the first to want to) headline in the Peg!

I think Buffalo could and sign him for the rest of his career with a little contract manipulation.

Sign him to a 11 year $61 million contract.

Structure the contract as such.

Year one $9 million
Years two through 4 $8 million
Year five $7 million
Year six $6 million
Year seven $5 million
Year eight $4 million
Year nine $2.5 million
Year ten $2 million
Year eleven $1.5 million

It is rumored he is looking for a contract worth $7-$8 for 5-6 years.
With this contract he will average $7.66 million per season for the first 6 seasons, after which he will be 37.
The next two seasons, he Will average $4.5 million a season and will be 39.

After this point he will most likely retire and be off the books or play another year or two at a discount. The contract expires when he is 42. Very doable.

This will give him a very doable and realistic cap hit of $5.545 million per season.

Richards declines Stars' request to waive no-movement clause

why would he do this? the Stars would get something back for him at least. they are not resigning him he knows that. doesnt matter who it is they get something. he can always decline their contract offers. strange guy

He does this because he knows he's not going back to Dallas. If his mind is set on going to say the Flyers. He's going to sign with them as a UFA.

With this in mind, why would he want his future team to trade away something of value to his old team and make them better?

Seems like a decent move to me.

they should add a clause in the CBA that if at this time of year that the player is agreed to not to return to that team who has his rights (after season is fully over) then they can both walk away making him UFA early. he can then talk to teams (all teams) before the deadline and that could help set the market for that year. just a thought
