Boynton acquired to fill a gap, I get. JVR to the Phantoms to make room, I don't. Please, help me understand. I can't wait to watch Carcillo and Shelley play tonight!!!!

with pronger and betts injured that makes up 2 possible scratches.. then the claim of boynton and the call-up of gustafsson gives the flyers a full roster for the game tonight.. someone had to move.. they only have 4 two-way contracts (i think) and those belong to jvr, nodl, gusty and giroux.. lets be honest giroux is needed so he's not going down.. gusty needs to play tonight if pronger cant go (boynton isn't in town yet).. so your choices are jvr and nodl.. and i dont understand the rationale behind sending jvr down and not nodl

however, i think this means zherdev is going to play tonight.. i expect a big game from him

It was explained during the pregame show by Bill Clement. Since JvR is a second-year player, he doesn't have to clear waivers upon re-entry like a veteran would.

He's not actually going anywhere, it's just a paper transaction until they send Gustafsson back down tomorrow.

i'm guessing he was and they just didnt say.. last night the roster was

nodl, richards, steeg
hartnell, briere, leino
z, carter, roo
carcillo, powe, betts

gusty, carle
coburn, timo
OD, mez

boosh, bob

(pronger, betts, boynton)

that's your 23.. with the only real options being send a guy that doesn't have to go through waivers (2-way) 'to the phantoms'.. capgeek was down when i wanted to double check, but jvr and nodl where the only 2 cause gusty had to play.. the more i think about it though, isn't powe on a 2-way?

EDIT: capgeek has returned this am.. powe is not on a 2-way.. jvr, nodl, gusty, giroux, and bob where the only choices.. bob has to stay as the backup goalie, gusty has to play, giroux isn't going anyway, so it was down to jvr and nodl.. who knwos why they picked jvr..

as far as bart goes.. he's still on the main roster according to capgeek.. which would make 24, which exceeds the limit.. so.. ya.. i dont understand haha

I'm not 100% Awaz but I'm pretty sure JVR has a small nagging injury so it was him that got the rest not Nodl. If true good move, if not def head scratcher..

GOtcha. I kept trying to figure out the cap hit numbers, and couldn't understand why you wouldn't just IR Bartulis. FOrgot about roster size.
