BOWL SEASON (and playoff season also)!!

So the ballyhooed 12-team playoff is almost here. No doubt this will cheapen the bowl season, but who cares? I'm still here, to give you guys my bowl picks!

Now the first bowl is tonight: The "Salute to Veterans Bowl" from Montgomery, Alabama. And I got South Alabama over Western Michigan 33-14 in that one. What bowl game (or 1st-round playoff game) has YOU excited?

A reminder that we have too damn many bowl games

Bowl games are great - they give teams a chance to end their season with a win and we see matchups we don’t normally see. It’s too bad the transfer portal opens before the bowls though, that harms things, and one reason I’m glad of the extended playoff incorporating in the “New Years Six” bowls is because it ends the opt out problem for those games so we won’t have results like last years Orange Bowl where Florida St had no good players and got pummeled by 60. There are fewer opt outs for the “minor” bowl games because those players aren’t as well known in many cases - but the transfer portal being open does hurt things. Still I enjoy the bowls.

Imagine almost playing in the 12-team playoff but then missing out to play in the Pop Tarts Bowl (Iowa St and Miami) lol

The thing that stands out to me on that list…

Take out the playoff games and that leaves 35 Bowl games.

That’s absurd.

Don’t like them, don’t watch them. Me, I’ll watch just about any football that’s on. I think it’s great to have a lot of bowls to watch and that so many teams can end their season on a high note.

I see there’s FCS quarterfinals on today also, S Dakota St smoked Incarnate Word.

Incarnate Word…there’s so many schools I forget exist in the football world until this time of year lol

Well I think Western Michigan will handle South Alabama given that the Jaguars’ QB and top WR are hurt and their top RB is in the portal. Western Michigan should win this one with ease.

South Alabama playing very well despite missing some key players - they’ve outplayed Western Michigan so far and their O has moved it despite not having the 3 key players I mentioned.

Maybe 7-5 otherwise Bama wouldn’t have an opponent this season but maybe that was partly a dig towards your rivals lol

I know they fall into that category, but it’s not directed at them honestly
There are too many bowls.

And they need to fix the transfer portal. It’s too wide open

Bowl picks (First real segment)

After a good quick pick of South Alabama last Saturday, let me tackle another bowl and see what happens.

Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl: Memphis vs. West Virginia [9:00, ESPN] (This is the first time EVER that Memphis and West Virginia are facing off, and it's in a game that I actually find interesting. I mean, West Virginia IS with an interim coach, but Vegas still has them as the favorite. And Memphis looks like the more complete team, but they don't have a good record while being ranked.
So what do I do? Well, Memphis will still have QB Seth Henigan and RB Mario Anderson Jr. for this game, so...)
My prediction: MEMPHIS 38-28
