No way!

I thought they'd let him walk.... Great move if they keep him. He's a guy that's been durable and versatile and probably could make some money on the market - I figured we'd lose him.

So did we actually sign Boling already?

The re-signing of Boling and Winston solidifies an offensive line that helped the running game into the No. 6 ranking in NFL rushing, its highest run ranking since a No. 2 finish in 2000.

Boling has started 47 games since he was drafted in the fourth round out of Georgia in 2011 and his athleticism has proven to be a boon on the Bengals power running plays. He also started two games at right tackle when
Andre Smith went down and before Winston signed late last season.
Boling, who turns 26 in the spring camps, impressed the club when he missed the last four games of the 2013 with a torn ACL and after his New Year’s Eve surgery he was back on the field for the first practice of training camp last season.

The Bengals went in with about $15 million to spend under the salary cap and this tightens up things. But apparently they are still looking for a veteran defensive lineman at either end or tackle, judging by the Fairley visit. The five deals could mean there’s only a couple left to do and it apparently precludes a veteran tight end.

I guess we're not locking up AJ Green.

I guess we're not locking up AJ Green.

I am sure that $15 million to spend does not include AJ Green, because Green is getting 10 million this season. I am sure we can sign Green for about that same amount long term. 6 years / 65 million (50 million guaranteed). So I don't think it affects us long term in regards to his contract. It does make me worry about our OT's next year though.

If we get lucky and land an often injured player like Fairley, who has had off field issues (perfect for a cheaper contract), then there is no way we don't go offensive line in the first round I think.

We just have to hope and pray that Burfict is able to return to 80% of his former self by midseason and we will have a pretty decent defense.

OT and DE would have to be the play in the draft.

However, if Dorsett does happen to fall to us in the second round, I would choose him there. Take best player available on the board between the best OT or DE left in the first round, get lucky and grab Dorsett in the second round, and then grab the opposite of what we didn't get in the 1st round, in the 3rd.

That would be a decent FA / Offseason:

FA - LB AJ Hawk (starter/backup - depending on Burfict)
FA - OG Clint Boling
FA - LB Rey Maualuga
FA - DT Nick Fairley
FA - K Mike Nugent
FA - OT Eric Winston (backup)
FA - LB Emmanuel Lamur

1st Round - OT La'el Collins, LSU (best OT we could hope for at pick 21)
2nd Round - WR Phillip Dorsett, Miami (good hands with a surplus of speed)
3rd Round - DE Mario Edwards, FSU (more likely early 3rd, but could fall to us in the 3rd)

We like our SEC, ACC players.

If we lock up Fairley, I'll be extremely pleased with our FA moves. I'm thrilled with the Boling move and adding Hawk and Fairley provide good depth in areas where we need it.

If we can somehow squeeze Michael Johnson back in there (if he's cut), I'll start shitting rainbows around here.

This wouldn't shock me..... Something has been going on with Andre and I think he's going into his final year of his deal. We also have Winston in the fold.

I don't think the Buccs can afford that much of a dead money cap hit for both Collins and Johnson. I think Johnson stays in TB for now.

how do they not blow this team up and go into rebuilding mode in a year or two?

Who? The Bengals or Buccaneers?

If you are hoping for the Bengals, I think you are shit out of luck. They sign their players to reasonable contracts for long term that they have no real intention of worrying about cutting a guy due to his reasonable salary. So the Bengals will continue business as usual, but the if you mean the Buccs. Not sure. They sure are putting themselves in a cap hell by letting Revis go, signing Johnson and Collins to big contracts and then cutting one of them the following year. They are not doing things well in the front office.

I got another one, more simple, more like Hobson: "Bengals, Boling Strike a Deal"

That was for AJ Hawk, not Boling, which is what I thought we were guessing on.

Yeah, I just meant that was Hobs creative headline for this FA period...... Maybe he breaks one out for Boling. I hope so at least.
