since nothing but baseball is going on now, I'm going to start on this, I will countdown from 120 as the offseason goes on and then after the football season everyone can bump this and laugh at how far off I was.

To start this off time to name team number 120

120. Memphis Tigers

memphis-tigers-alternate-logo-primary.jpg

Reason Why they're here: They're the worst until they prove otherwise, and last season they were just terrible, they went 1-11 with their only win coming against a Mid Tenn State team who was using their backup QB, so in other words not good. This team and program has a lot of work to do.

Reason for Them to be hopeful of being better than this: umm their QB was a freshman and he showed some promise, maybe they'll surprise some people and win a few games. They got a few solid recruits this past offseason so at least the future is looking positive but this will likely be a season to forget.

Prediction

Mississippi State L
@ Arkansas State L
Austin Peay W(maybe)
SMU L
@ Mid Tenn State L
@ Rice L
ECU L
@ Tulane L
@ UCF L
UAB L
Marshall L
@ Southern Miss L

Record 1-11

Their schedule doesn't do them much favors luckily they play Austin Peay so they can get at least one win, bad news is the only other two winable games being against Tulane and Rice are both away games, very unlikely that they win those games. Their best chance other than that is Marshall at home but that isn't even too likely.

Are you actually going to finish the count down unlike whoever started it last year?

agree with most of this.

I think they might get by Rice.

Ahh... ok. Not that it really matters that much. It will be interesting once you start getting down to probably the lower 40's to upper 30's to see how many people start to bitch about it.

119. San Jose State Spartans

San%20Jose%20State%20Logo%202006.gif

Why they're here: Umm lets start off by saying that when you play two FCS schools, it's not a good thing that your final record was 1-12. San Jose State was pretty much a disaster last season. For this season, their QB from last year who was one of the few highpoints graduated, so breaking in a starting QB on top of all this is pretty bad. Their top returning RB ran for 461 yards with a 3.7 yards per carry average, that too is not good. Their defense is also really bad, they gave up over 5 yards per attempt last year and none of their defensive tackles in their rotation got more than 3.5 TFL.

Why they could be higher: It's very tough to rank them here when them and Memphis both have 2nd year coaches, but right now neither program looks promising. They do have some good recievers but with no offensive line and currently an undefined starter at QB it won't help much. Maybe if one of the QBs performs well this team can win a few games. Playing in the WAC is a huge plus to be able to do this.

Predictions
@ Stanford L
@ UCLA L
Nevada L
New Mexico State L
@ Colorado State L
@ BYU L
Hawai'i L
@ Louisiana Tech L
Idaho W
@ Utah State L
Navy L
@ Fresno State L

1-11

Their schedule does them absolutely no favors, they don't have the benefit of playing an FCS team for a potential win(they couldn't beat UC Davis last year so that isn't even promising). The only good news is they get the two other weakest teams in the Wac at home(Idaho and New Mexico State). They could at least manage to win one of those.

Yeah, that's where things will get interesting

don't worry though I won't go crazy and have Arkansas State in my top 5.

You're out of your mind, Boise27. No way San Jose deserves to be in the top 119. They are clearly 120 material. Memphis is being underrated by everyone, they should be up around 116 at least.

Where are you getting your rankings from? Just curious.

BTW, I looked for a preseason 120 poll to get an idea of each team in one place but I couldn't even find one, so I'm the first to start one of these this year it seems.

Now I look around to get an idea with how each team looks like they'll be this year.

You need to publish your rankings, college football fans are already starting to feen for any info. That way you can make some loot and influence everyone else's lists.

118. Akron Zips

zippy.gif

Reason why they're here: Last year was a terrible year for the Zips, they were one game removed from a winless season, and worst of all that was on a mostly senior team. Also this team lost to Gardner-Webb who finished 4-8 playing in the FCS. None of their Runningbacks have had more than 8 carries in their careers. They lost their top two recieving threats and none of the others really showed any promise, The offensive line returns 3 starters from a line that gave up 33 sacks last season. Akron's defense gave up 6.3 yards per play and made very few big plays. Plus their best defensive player graduated. Zips have a lot of work to do. Their mascot does them no favors either, it's a Kangaroo! It's bad enough their team doesn't intimidate anyone but their mascot doesn't either!

Reason why they could be higher: Apparently that kangaroo thing in their logo thinks their capable of something, maybe he knows something we don't or he's just a biased homer. They got some Juco transfers that could compete with Jr. QB Patrick Nicely who was ineffective last year. They ended the season strong, losing close games to decent teams then winning their last game, but problem was most of those players were seniors. Another positive is that they get to play a greatly depleted Ohio State team to start the year, so instead of losing by 50 or 60 they get to lose by 30 or 40.

Predictions
@ Ohio State L
Temple L
@ Cincinnati L
VMI W
@ Eastern Michigan L
FIU L
Ohio L
Central Michigan L
@ Miami Ohio L
Kent State L
@ Buffalo L
@ Western Michigan L

1-11

This isn't too brutal of a schedule, Ohio State despite all the issues and lost starters is still the toughest team they deal with. They get the benefit of playing a FCS team, not only that they play a completely horrible FCS team. VMI went 3-8 last year including a loss to Akron's nemisis Gardner Webb! Hopefully Akron can beat them. If this team makes good strides they might be able to beat Central Michigan.

perhaps sir

This could work if ghost gets that news page going a bit(I'm sure half of you didn't even know we had one of these). This could be published on it, as well as our top 25 poll rankings during football season, so we don't have to keep it up as a sticky throughout the whole week.
