I suggested Diaco two years ago when Riley was first hired. Should have listened to me then

I predict a lot of uncomfortable husbands/sons hearing their wives/moms talk about Diaco.

Not sure if it is signed, sealed, and delivered but okay.

Things I like
1. Was DC at Notre Dame. After he left, Notre Dame defense went down and then it cratered in 2016.
2. A New Jersey guy. Rich Glover, Mike Rozier, Irving Fryar, lots of talent in New Jersey.
3. Possibly was not cut out to be a head coach, but it looks like he is cut out to be a DC. Maybe stick around and not job hop. But then, when you put something good on the field, people come knocking with bags of money
4. Defense will go to a 3-4. Personally, I like the 3-4 because in college speed is better than strength. Having two fast linebacker/safeties on the line can put some serious pressure on the QB.
5. Diaco also dabbled with Special Teams. Let's get Demornay Pierson-El some room to run for God's Sakes.

Things I don't like
1. Going to a 3-4. Does Nebraska have the recruits for that? I am not worried about the safeties and cornerbacks, it is the linebackers and sort of the D line. Carlos Davis looks like he wants to be a beast on the D Line. I do like Chris Weber, Dedrick Young was hurt the last half of the year. Hopefully, Avery Roberts is all that he is supposed to be and these other red-shirt linebackers(can't remember the names) are talented.
2. As a head coach he was not a winner, but as a DC he was. Does he have an ego? Does he truly want to be at Nebraska and be a defensive coordinator or is it just a stepping stone? He has no Nebraska ties.

We have a DC who won the Broyles Award.

That's exciting. That's recruiting power right there, too.

I'm not gonna get myself sick with excitement, though. That one year with the Catfish guy made him look pretty damn good. Need to see him replicate that now. He needs the right kind of players up front as has been discussed.

I say if he can recruit here, he's gonna have great success.

you mean while Diaco was a head coach at UConn? Would have been a heck of a pull to get a HC away from a program to be a DC.

He had one good year at ND and that makes him a great hire for Nebraska?

I like the hire only issue will be switching to 34 and recruiting. But the way hybrid are now today a slow safety is the perfect lb.

I love that reilly is serious

He had one good year at ND and that makes him a great hire for Nebraska?
did you read absolutely zero about him?

from OWH:
He served as Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator from 2010 to 2013. The Fighting Irish ranked in the top 30 nationally in scoring defense all four of those years, peaking in 2012, when the Irish, featuring Heisman finalist and linebacker Manti Te’o, gave up just 12.8 points per game on their way to the BCS national championship game. Diaco’s defenses were particularly stingy inside their own 20-yard line, allowing opponents to score touchdowns on just 47.3 percent of their possessions over his four seasons as coordinator.

The erudite and passionate New Jersey native spent six years with coach Brian Kelly at three stops — Central Michigan, Cincinnati and ND.

At Notre Dame, Kelly and Diaco recruited and developed a defense that blended stars like Te’o and lunchpail guys who embraced a motto Diaco explained to reporters just before the 2013 BCS national title game: “Whole heart, whole body, whole mind.”

For his work in 2012, Diaco won the Frank Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant. At the BCS press conference, Diaco called it a “staff award.”

my biggest problem with the hire is that he's an Iowa guy.
