Blues Put Jaroslav Halak On IR

The Western playoff race is a tight one and it’s the sort of thing that injuries of any kind can cause a team to miss out on the postseason party. That’s why the news of St. Louis putting goalie Jaroslav Halak on injured reserve with a hand injury comes as a tough blow for the team.

While the team will go with Ty Conklin to start in the meantime, call-up Ben Bishop is likely to figure into the action as the Blues have three games in four days coming up starting in Buffalo on Friday. St. Louis is currently 13th in the tight West race with 59 points, nine points behind the five teams tied for fourth place.

Bad news for the Blues, good news for the Sabres this Friday.

Blues are in a strange position.. they made the playoffs the other year and have a lot of rising young talent. The rebuild should basically be over, they have all the pieces in place and a great farm system.

So is it really worth selling right now? It might be a better idea to enjoy the decent first round pick (top ten, at least?) and try to keep some vets around to help mold the young kids.

I still think Brad Richards would be a perfect fit for this team, so clearing up some cap room to make a run at him this summer might not be a bad idea.

Ben Bishop is ridiculous. I've seen him a few times in the A, the guy is just freaking huge. I don't think he would be backing down from Brent Johnson any time soon.
