Suspension for sure, if the NHL had guts, he'd get 10+.

Not nearly as much as they should. They hit a few guys pretty hard (9 and 15 games) recently, but in general, 3-5 games is the max, and more often than not a $2500 fine is about all that happens.

the punishments seem to be pretty random at this point.

i think the league should be able to suspend a player in the game based on video review. as of now, that is not possible, it depends on if the refs were looking at the time. this particular hit was not in the play, so i guess everyone (somehow) missed it. i would be all for the league being able to review the video, even if it's during intermission, and pull a player from the ice even if no penalty was called.
