I'll give credit where it's due here. Texas' win over Missouri was impressive. I know they're not world-beaters, but they were riding a 6 game winning streak. That TCU win was ugly but it was against a ranked team. Stanford is trash just as I knew they were. Nice win by Okie State, too.

Just curious. If OU loses do you really care if Iowa S. or any other team from your conference wins? Just trying to understand this nutswinging thing. I understand middle of the off season smack talk but before you team plays its playoff game you're here thinking about how your conference looks?

Yes but creating a thread to brag about the successes of the rest of your conference, especially when we already have two threads about conference records.

Conference nutswinging breakdown.

1. You pull for every member of your conference against any OOC foe, for the plain and simple belief that your conference should be perceived as the best.

2. You pull for every member of your conference against any OOC foe, for the plain and simple reason that your team sucks and you need to feel good about something related to football.

3. You pull for every member of your conference against any OOC foe because you want their ranking to be as high as possible when you mollywhop their asses.

4. You wave the conference flag to protest or defy a professed belief by one or more persons that:
a. One conference is better than the rest
b. Your conference is lesser than another or all conferences

These are the only reasons to nutswing from my viewpoint. Number 2 is directly related to number 1 as number 1 naturally follows number 2. When you've lost your team, you've lost any reason to care so you'll grab onto whatever can keep your attention in the game.

Number 3 is mainly based in logic, whereas numbers 1 and 2 are based in desperation. Number 3 is sometimes amended by a desire for one or more specific teams within your conference to lose no matter the opponent. At this point Number 3 is no longer solely based in logic, but is tinged with hate.

Number 4 is based in reactionary defiance to 1 or 2.

I am a party-line Number 3 participant.

I will frequently practice number 4.

Yep. Both underperformed from what I was expecting to see as well. That's the only reason I really do love bowl season. Getting outside the framing of what you've built your team to attack/defend in conference and seeing how good you can do against another scheme not expected. I think it emphasizes coaching strength more than anything.
